I just had a confuse.gifWTFwtf.gif moment ... but I guess I'll get over it. In other news, it's a splendupulous day today! Bright sunny sky, a bit chilly for my taste, but hey.

Took the bus out to my old stomping grounds in MidCity and went to a yardsale where I bought a bit of jewelry, a breadmaker, two cute purses, some clothes, three books, a few dvd's, a pair of brown boots, some wine glasses, a set of Henry David Thoreau read out loud tapes, a metal 1 cup measuring cup, a silver wine glass, and a set of chopsticks to eat the chinese food I bought for dinner. wink All for a measly 20 bucks! w00t.gif

My freind agreed to load them in her car and drive me home, but she had to stay and cleanup first. Honestly, I probably would have offered to help, but I just didn't feel like it today. I strolled down to my old street and walked around. I see that there is now a stake with string setup around the big lot of land next to the house with no parking/trespassing signs. There's no trespassing signs on the walls of the house and a few nice big city notices, this property is condemned. How embarrassing for my old landlords ... but for crying out loud, the fridge that had all kinds of meat in the freezer is still sitting up there on the balcony!jawdrop.gif  Can't imagine what kind of  deisease that must be carrying by now! doh

It was nice to be in the area again. smile

So, I was on lost media and they have a flash media hing setup to fade different pictures in and out. Claires was rght before Des's and her's has a big purple flower over her eye - really prettyaww

When Des comes up behind her, there's a millisecond that the flower looks like it's on des, and that's just kinda weird, but cool. I tried to catch it with the print screen function and got Claire in with it. I thoguht it was pretty cool looking!aww

Daire

I put it in the Daire thread too for the Daire clan to enjoy if they like it.  Kind of like when I  tossed  the Sawyer pic  I messed with over in the Skater tent.  I figure,  it's there, it's cool, I can find a use for it.  nod.gif

What I THOUGHT I was gonna do was put on something comfortable, walk to the rental center, pay rent and then head straight for the levy to take a good walk. BUT, I ran across one of my bathing suites, and the next thing I knew, I was out swimming! Heck ... I pay to live here and that includes use of the pool why WOULDN'T I use everything I pay for????

Anyway, I wasn't all that easy on myself. I swam laps across the end of the pool. Meaning, length and not widthwise. I'm not a great swimmier, but I managed.

The first time I kind of swam with my hands under the water and then coming back I did the breaststroke and when I got back to the other end, I was out of breath and my pulse just shot straight up. I think it was beating twice a second!!

So, I waited a minute, and then I went again. I just kept going this way and occasionally doing the backstroke. What I can say is, I am gonna be SOME kinda sore in the morning. I swam until my arms wore out and I couldn't do it anymore. I NOW realize that this is probably the BEST way to go for shoulders, arms and that muscle that's on your side/back right under your arm?? The shoulderblade, sort of. Anyway, I'm already sore so ... I'll probably pay for it tomorrow but I don't have any regrets.

I hope to try to do this more often.

Well, I just got up ... here at 11 something and I don't seem to be as sore as I thought I'd be. *whew*

I did measure my waist yesterday and found that the pants aren't lying, I have lost an inch thus far. Last time I checked my waist was about 38 inches, now it's 37. w00t.gif

No, I don't sweat over numbers, it is what it is ... same with weight and age.
I was talking to the pharmacy manager the other day and I was talking about how over a year ago I had actually managed to break 220. I've lost about 27 or 28 pounds since then. He says, "So ... now you're under ..." And he stopped.

(He was referring to being under 200.)

I said, you can say it it's not gonna bother me at all. That's just the way it is.

The way I feel about it is, you're either gonna accept me or not. As for myself, I am the hardest on me about it than anyone else. I don't want to look at a picture unless it's one I had control of taking. Especially not full body shots.
It just makes me depressed.

So ..... todaaaaayyyy I got dressed in sweats and a t-shirt, went to PJ's Coffeehouse and got a croissant. Not the best thing for a low carb diet, but it's the only thing I've had today, save a handful of grape tomatoes:)

Then I went for a good walk on the levy. I thought I could go on one of the sideroards from the main road and get to the levy that way instead of  back through my apartments, but unfortunately, I couldn't find a way to it that way, I wound up walking in a circle. BUT it gave me a longer walk. biggrin

So, got up on the levy and sort of changed up my walking. A kind of slow to moderate pace, then faster, then slower then breakout in a run and then slow again. I learned this from something I saw on tv. Got to a place where I stopped running, sat and then decided to do some situps since I was sitting on a slope and it was easier on my back then when I try to do them on the floor.

THe condition of the levy is a bit disturbing to me.  I hadn't been up there in a while and I thought I was gonna flip!

If you don't know already, the levy is a huge mound of dirt built up very high between the water and the land.  That way, when the water rises it has to go a pretty good ways before it ever reaches the populated area(s) on the other side. Something like this ... there's a cement wall as well that kinda slopes from the ground on the side where the water is.

IMG_0162.jpg

So,  on the right there is the lake, and the left is the populated area(s).
ON that right side, there is a slab of cement that slops down to the land. That land used to go a good ways out before it hit water. You could go down the slope and just walk alongside the water. NOW the water has risen all the way to the bottom of that cement slope. There's no dry land at all between the lake and the levy.weirdface That leads me to believe, if it stays that way, then we are gonna be in big trouble should another big storm comes. This area did not flood at all during Katrina, or after Katrina. It is the highest place you could be in New Orleans, including the metro New Orleans area, and it's above sea level.

I dunno ... I hope it has some time to recede some. hmm

aww  I'm happy for you.

The picture helped describe the levy well . It might be better that it's not drought-like, it's hard for parched ground to soak up all the rain that summer brings.

Keep up the good work, Lion! w00t.gif

I'm glad you posted that picture, it's nice to have a visual. You often talk about the levy, but I never was quite sure what it was. I hope the water will recede too!

It's so funny because I'd never really heard of levies until I moved here, and now it's just a part of life so you have to kinda stop and think ... oh,, yeah, there are people who haven't seen one before!laughing.gif

Another one is, you know that nice piece of grass that suns through the middle of a two way street? Well, the entire country calls it a median (I think the entire country)  but here, it's called "the neutral ground."

They don't go grocey shopping ... they "make groceries."

and everything ends in yea or no. Like ... "I didn't mean to do that, no..."

"That food was good, yeah!"

and mayonaisse is "mahnaisse."

Okay, so, my cousin called me today ... the wife of my aunts son who I stayed with during the stuff with my mother. I was very pleased. I'd planned on calling them soon so that they knew exactly when in June I was coming up there. And that's what she wanted to know anyway. smile

Seems my Aunt, my mothers sister ... the one who was so mean to me when we were both staying at their home wanted to come and visit them. But they told her, she couldn't come when I was there because of the way she behaved before.

I have to admit, that felt good to hear it after so long of being bullied by people in my family. To finally have someone treat me like that and for other people to finally admit that yes, I was being mistreated. Somethign I so wanted confirmation on when I was younger and never got.

Anyway ... I'm getting a bit nervous now. I have to pay the hotel bill when it comes and the registration fee is due, and I don't fork out chunks of money like that often. weirdface

BUT, that's only a minor anxiety factor compared to the fact that I'm gonna see these people I went to school with 20 years ago. A good many of them have kept their relationsships since leaving school. over 400 of them still live in the MOntgomery area, so that's a good reason why they've kept in touch.

I've had two guys visit my profile in the past day  or so, the one I have at classmates.com. They left their names on my guestbook, but no message. ONe of them has a pic on his profile, the other does not. The other has visited twice and left his name twice.  I think interesting, but creepy both at the same time.

I also just sawe an add for this contest put on by, heck I forget but I'm getting the details as we speak, that entails making a video and the winner gets to sing take me out to the ballgame at stadium field. Hey! Might as well try at least anyway! biggrin
