Post Info TOPIC: the echo was deafening....

I cried, "Oh, Lady Midnight, I fear that you grow old, the stars eat your body and the wind makes you cold." "If we cry now," she said, "it will just be ignored."

the echo was deafening from the top of the cliff. Hurley stood on the precipice, feeling the wind on his face and tasting the salt of the ocean.
'I miss Libby....' he thought as a tear slid down his face and into the wind. 'Michael, you bastard!!!'
He felt the rage again crawl up from the pit of his stomach and settle inside his head until his head wanted to explode. It built and built until the large man finally let out a scream of pain and rage and frustration. If the island was supposed to change a person's life, this suffering soul needed the magic now, more than ever....
His gaze wandered over the ocean to the birds flying above the waves. How long had it been since she was murdered? He didn't find it necessary to keep track of the days after, but the days before her death, he lived every day...day by day... it was all he wanted to do anymore. Food had become unsatisfying. People had become a bore. He just wanted the silence of the wind and the feel of the ocean spray around him. When would life ever become worthwhile again? When would it be time to join the living and leave the dead behind?
He thought of Charlie and how he died a hero. He thought of Jack and how he wanted so badly to be one by getting everyone home. All of these experiences that were his were filed somewhere in his memory. Some deeper than others. But the memory of Libby was always there. He awoke thinking of her. He slept dreaming of her. It seemed so real when he talked to her or saw her in his dreams. And yet.... Hurley knew that Libby had died so very long ago. The loneliness of being without her consumed him. It was as if his life ended with her death.
Death. The word hung in the air the way the ocean mist dampened Hurley's face. Death was a vicious animal on this island. Boone died- bloodied and mangled. Shannon- killed by a bullet released in fear. The Others had LOST people too. Hurley could still feel the Dharma van as it powed thuogh the beach, hitting one of their men. Ryan? Was that his name? Death. As common on this island as the sand on the beach.
Through the purple haze of memory came the thoughts of Sun and Jin. Watching them evolve and become a part of the community was so pleasant! He could still see Sun, standing on the beach, ready for a swim and Jin running up to her, trying to cover her with a towel. He had seemed so controlling and domineering, yet he became the most loving and caring of husbands. 'When Jin left on the raft, it broke Sun's heart. His return was a rebirth for both of them. And then there was the baby. How filled with pride and excitement this loving couple was! It all seemed so distant, now...
A massive wave of loneliness washed over Hurley. It surrounded him and seemed to rob him of the ability to breathe. He gasped in attempts to put air into his lungs but it seemed as though this would never happen. Is this how Charlie had felt in his final moments? What a little buddy he had become! He left his ring with Aaron. This confused Claire greatly until Desmond gave her his list of five.
Aaron! He grew like a weed! And for the most part, he was a happy baby. Even sawyer smiled when he saw that little round face! Aaron's joy was so easy to share. Sometimes, when the loneliness became too much, it was easy to go to Aaron, give Claire a break from mommy-duties, and play with him for a while. It was awesome! And Aaron could always make Sawyer smile.
Hurley never knew what Sawyer would do next. He knew only, that something had happened to create a change in Sawyer. For a time, Sawyer was more self-destructive than usual. He wasn't reading, he pushed away anyone who tried to get close and even stopped snapping out new nicknames. Sawyer had disappeared for a while and when he came back he seemed quiet....content...at ease with himself. He was just different. Yet, there was a sadness on his entire face now. It was only when he played with Aaron that Sawyer would smile. One joy in all of life....
One joy... isn't that all that anyone wants of life? Libby had been Hurley's one joy... How long had she been gone? How many days, months, years, hours and minutes had he been here? A stabbing pain permeated Hurley's forehead. His body felt as though the wind just blew though him. He gazed into the early evening sky and spotted a shooting star. Like a child, he made a wish and the wish became a soft, sad song.

And now the purple dust of twilight time
Steals across the meadows of my heart
Now the little stars, the little stars pine
Always reminding me that we're apart
You wander down the lane and far away
Leaving me a love that cannot die
Love is now the stardust of yesterday
The music of the years gone by.

Sometimes I wonder why I spend
The lonely nights
Dreaming of a song
That melody haunts my reverie
And I am once again with you
When our love was new
And each kiss an inspiration
Ah, but that was long ago
Now my consolation
Is in the stardust of a song

Beside a garden wall
Where stars are bright
You are in my arms
That nightingale tells its fairy tale
of paradise where roses grew
Though I dream in vain
In my heart it will remain
my stardust melody
The memory of love's refrain.

Ah, but that was long ago
Now my consolation
Is in the stardust of a song

Beside a garden wall
Where stars are bright
You are in my arms
That nightingale tells its fairy tale
of paradise where roses grew
Though I dream in vain
In my heart it will remain
my stardust melody
The memory of love's refrain.

The echo of his song was deafening from the top of the cliff. Hurley stood at the precipice, feeling the wind on his face and the salt of the ocean....
