news article

The latest working-over is the Sci Fi Channel miniseries Tin Man, which begins a three-night run tonight. It is not a sideways or more adult view of one of the story's supporting players, along the lines of Wicked (the book, the musical); rather, it squeezes the Oz story through a filter woven from Star Wars, The Lord of the Rings and other scraps of pop mythology too numerous to mention.

My opinion is that it suffers from Flash Gordon syndrome.

That is based on only seeing the first half hour and deciding going to bed was more important.

So if you have seen the Flash Gordon series then you may know what I was thinking.

Was Flash Gordon a series as well as a movie? I remember seeing the movie when I was probably 10 and remember not liking it at all but don't remember much about it.

Uh, Flash Gordon is a series right now on SciFi on Fridays.

25-30 years ago it was a movie.

25-30 years before that it was 2-3 serials in movie theaters starring Buster Crabbe. Who was also Tarzan for a while after being an Olympic medalist.

And, of course, before that it was a comic strip.

This series reminded of so many different things!  I already liked 3 of the main actors to begin with. It seemed to come to an abrupt end!  But still, it was a satisfying ending and wrapped it all up nicely. nod.gif
