I cried, "Oh, Lady Midnight, I fear that you grow old, the stars eat your body and the wind makes you cold." "If we cry now," she said, "it will just be ignored."
Sunday she was sitting in a chair for the afternoon. She still seemed fairly weak but was getting stronger. Physical therapy comes daily to move her arms and legs for strengthening. She is not strong enough to write yet.
She seemed to have a slight temp and was all sweaty. The nurse said she still has an infection but they are treating it with antibiotics. The nurse said she was breathing without the ventilator for a whole day but her lungs sounded a little wheezy. She kept coughing up phlegm stuff that they had to suction out through the Traic hole. They even plugged the hole for her to say hi to us. Dad got all emotional and weepy.
Today no more ventilator at all. They are letting the hole heal shut. The speech therapist was in there making her talk. All her IV's are out of her. She has a feeding tube in her nose but they said she can start drinking and eating the regular way now. She went from 9 different meds intravenously in the beginning down to 6 then 3 and know none. She is still getting a few things by injection but NO MORE IV's.
She should be in a regular room any day now. Then she can have flowers and phone calls and all kinds of visitors to talk to. She is still pretty weak. She will be talking before she is writing at this rate. She has to build her muscles back up so she can move her body on her own and stand up to walk. Laying in a bed without moving for 4 weeks straight is hard on a body. That will be her next big accomplishment.
Just 3 weeks ago they talked about maybe the right thing to do would be to unplug her because she was in a self induced coma and they didn't know why she wasn't waking up. It's been a slow road to recovery but it's all been for the best. We'll take every day as a blessing.
