i have often scoffed at environmentalists saying that they really don't care if the earth survives, all thy want is the survival of humanity... the earth takes care of itself and cleanses itself from the sins man commits against it. it is why we have tornadoes in atlanta, floods thru-out the world, volcanoes and tsunamis world-wide. be nice to mother nature.... it's a bugger when she retaliates. tptb have talked about the island as a character in itself... and we are just beginning to see how much of a character it is... it prevents michael from dying... it stops jack from jumping off a bridge... it heals locke and rose and i wouldn't be surprised if it was mrs hawkings.... or the force behind the bus that killed juliet's ex.... i do believe the earth has some strange and mystical qualities that we, as humanity, cannot understand. i do believe that we, as humanity are here to serve the earth and protect it from ourselves... just as the island needs to be protected... the island~~~ is it the soul of the earth? the eye of the universe? is it some interchange where all course corrections in life take place? it is definitely an important place... and a place that is magical.... please... tell us more!!!
I agree that our survival is dependant upon the Earths survival and we are responsible if it does not survive - albiet unless it's by some random event like say some planet becomes a red star or something and this milkyway explodes.
At any rate, I said from the very beginning that smokie is in essence the islands avitar. It speaks and acts on what the island wants. I've compared it to the avitar on Andromeda. The ship was an intity in and of itself and it had a physical representation that spoke for and acted for it. The avitar's name was Rommi.
As far as us serving to earth, genisis tells us that it was given to man to protect and to have dominion over. The Earth does not rule us, but us the earth. That does not however, give us permission to abuse and misuse it. It is living and reproductive.
