in season 3 my only thought on her right now is that she will be part of a love thing with Charlie that will go south when Charlie shows his true colors. I think she will lose Aaron again, and this time it'll be for a good deal of time.
I cried, "Oh, Lady Midnight, I fear that you grow old, the stars eat your body and the wind makes you cold." "If we cry now," she said, "it will just be ignored."
there is more to claire than just a love interest for charlie... she is learning how to mother... learning how to survive and finding out she can do this on her own without the shelter of a man.... aaron will give her more strength and purpose... she will grow even more stronger in season3...
I hate to say it, but I did sya it at the end of season 2. She really has no use on the island outside of being a woman for Charlie and momma for Aaron. I'd like to see her killed off if for no other reason than to see the struggle between Charlie, and say Locke, Jin and Sun, or even Rose and Bernard over who will raise Aaron.

i rewatching 'raised by another' claire's strengths and desire for autonomy can be seen soo well... yet there is charlie and he begins to needle away at her self confidence and makes her doubt her belief in herself... he begins his domination of her and the baby... makes her move to the caves and return there...in a sense, causes her abduction... without charlie, claire learns and grows and takes care of herself and learns to mother... and becomes happy in the process... she could, withour a man in her life, become almost another xena... perhaps this was why she needs to raise aaron alone... to find her true potential as a parent and human being... and not be LOST anymore....
Charlie is needing to feel important, needed. That's his motivation. He was once responsible and dependable. He allowed his brother to influence him into doing drugs and literally changing places. I think Claire will always need people - Live together or die alone. But she can raise Aaron in the midst of support and friendship.
I see good points in what you both say, and I geuss there is hope for her character, but I just hope that it doesn't get stale. I'd love to see her become a strong mother, and a leader among the Losties now that she has given part of herself to Charlie , but I think her dependance on one person or another. (Charlie & Locke) is going to play out a bit longer.

again... i rewatching season one. claire says over and over again, 'i can take care of myself!' got me to thinking, if she is jack's sister, doesn't that sound a bit like him?? that litle streak of independence.... and again, is this what charlie will try to take from her??? remeber, she is to raise aaron herself... does that mean alone??? will charlie's influence on aaron be interference???
If you look at their lives, you can understand their reactions. Claire has been repeatedley disappointed by those around her. When she has been dependant on someone or leaned on someone for support, they have let her fall. So, I don't see her independance as a type of independant streak perse, but something she has learned in naturally leaning on others for support and getting burned.
Charlie has let down the ones who he should have supported. He became a drain on everyone who cared anything about him. He has a since of guilt about that, but he doesn't know how to correct it. He has a strong need to be needed, to be support, to be responsible ... but he doesn't really know how to do any of those things, so he does it wrong every time.
In the end, I think Charlie is a well intentioned misguided soul who hopefully will eventually learn what he needs to be a functional human being.
Claire, on the other hand, just needs time to heal.
looks like the second episode of Season 3 is a Claire-centric epi..... wonder if it will be another island flashback, but i don't see how that could be possible. Maybe it will be before she is pregnant. I like Claire but am a little tired of seeing that child glued to her hip... hee hee.

lockesladyness wrote: with any luck, it will give us some insight as to who her daddy is!!! and it will give us more of an explanation as to who she is!!!
I'm still thinking it could be Jacks dad. It would make sense, and it would lay down the groundwork for some future connections that could be interesting if they ever learn about one another. The one problem I see with this is that I'd think that Claire would know the name of her father. That would then register with her when she first learned Jacks name. There is a chance that her mother or Christian lied abot the name, but I doubt it.

there are some lines in season one that she spoke that were similar to what jack has said... of course she also tells charlie at one point, 'don't tell me what i can't do!!' good for her!!! hope she stays wise and drops the hobbitt again...
Sorry, but I forsee a good deal of big footed hobbit love for a while at least. They made so much of it, and made a point to have them kiss at the end of Season 2 for them to kill it right away.

exactly!!! he will weasel his way back into her life, create a false dependency and continue to erode her confidence as a mother and woman, and then, when opportunity knocks... he will betray her to the highest bidder.... he can't help it... it is in his nature to do so....
claire needs to develop some deeper alliances with kate and sun... especially sun... in order to develop more as a character...as a woman... she has more strengths than what is shown and can have more leadership if she doesn't fall into the dependency trap that charlie, unintentionally, sets....
