Chick-Lit Corner

So I know alot of people here read Sci-fi and thats cool Im just not into it.  I read alot of what is known as "chick-lit"  Its sorta romantic comedy thats not like harlequin.  Unfortunantly its not taken seriously cause the covers of the books always tend to have something like...a high heel shoe, a tube of lipstick, a bride, a red dress, or some sort of mixed drink, and tend to be bright pink.  The stories, however, can be really good, and really well written.

Bridget Jones Diary

Sex in the City

and most recently In Her Shoes are examples of "Chick-lit" books that have been turned into movies.

Anyway this is a place to talk about these kinda books (as well as other books aimed towards women).

Most recently I read a book called "Coffee and Kung Fu" by Karen Brichoux.  I really enjoyed it...it was a little different cause the herione loves Jackie Chan movies   Its a good story about finding out who you are and what you want.  My favorite character was probably Grampa...or Ethan.

Short excerpt (dont know if this is legal but here goes)

"The fine art of bull****.  A moment to learn, a lifetime to master.  Just like Kung Fu.  And-in Jackie Chan movies, anyway-bull**** is all part of the game.  Apply a little bull**** and trick the master into thinking you're hard at work, taking your punishment, filled with respect, injured, weak, exhausted, and even, as a last resort, trick him into thinking you have to take a piss if that will get you off the hook."

A quote even the guys can appreciate!

It's got some good reviews on Amazon too. Link: The May Queen

if a male can get a couple of words in sideways, my wife and her sister go to rumage sales quite often and she brings me books by the bagfull, any and all kinds. I sometimes find myself reading what you are calling chic-lit books and some of them are very well written. I can enjoy any kind of book if it has a decent story and is well written. Currently i probably have about a thousand pocket type books and about 500 hardcovers, i have everything and anything from westerns to science friction to romance to spy stories to alternate future stories, you get the picture i think. Being retired i have lots of time for reading so i sometimes read a couple of books per day. As long as my eyes hold up i will continue to do so. I have quite a few talking books also but i don't seem to enjoy them as much. Have a good day.

she doesn't get them from garage sales, at least not very often. Where i live, (michigan, north of detroit) we have rummage sales usually run by local churches where everything and anything can be bought. Stuff is donated so prices are generally low. You can get a supermarket type brown paper bag full for a dollar, which will average 6 or 8 interesting books per bag. Both my wife and her sister drive dodge caravan mini vans so they can haul a lot of bags of whatever they buy. They enjoy doing it so what the hay, half of their fun is sorting thru the stuff after they haul it home.

Wow thats a long series!  I still havent been to the library yet but when I go Ill prob get the one you suggested and maybe one of these.

I cant wait to go to Mich. on vaca in Sept.  There is a used book store thats super cheap and my cousins have a lot of credit there.  Dont get them for free anymore but the fee is really minimal.  My cousins are always like...go nuts!  And it has a pretty good selection.  Last year when I was there the library was also having a book sale...I scored pretty good.

I'm reading "To the Nines". I know it's a little out of order but I was helping my friend unpack today and that's the book she has so I'm borrowing it.

And I'm reading eleven on top - and I never knew here was a place that existed where nearly everyone owned a gun, even old ladies going to funerals have guns to pull out on each other when one of them gives their grand daughter the evil eye...

MY coworkers don't say anything, but I wonder what they must think when I's sitting there snickering and sometimes guffawing. I also am reading J.D.Rpbb - Remmeber When which seems to be pretty good.

Between the two, I've been having dreams now of mystry murders and stalkers who mail me pictures of my friends and threaten to kill them and some wide shouldered bo0yfriend to crumble into tears on. I kept wondering why I was having these stupid dreams, then I remmebered ... oh, I'm reading these two books and both have stalkers in them and boyfriends and guns and stuff.....

Yeah, it was funny... I started reading the book at my friend's house. We were all in the living room and two of my friends were watching tv when I opened the book and started reading. It was about a minute and I started laughing and my friend was impressed that it was that funny so soon. She said "you just opened it and you're laughing already?". Even though she had the book, she hasn't read it yet because she's got tons of books.

I thought I would go down to the used book store down the street to see if any of these books were there... I forgot that it closed and there is a Dollar Store there now! This is the second one in my immediate area that has closed. I have to see if I can find another one.... hmmmmmmmm...... and I need to check the library as well.

I read a really fun book called "Time Off for Good Behavior" by Lani Diane Rich.

Kinda of a good book to read right now for me as the main character just turned 32 (Im not quite there yet btw) and is starting to figure out that she doesnt want her life to keep going the way it is, and how to change it.

I really appreciated how Wanda cursed a lot and still got the great guy in the end.  I guess there is hope for me yet.

Well, I read eleven on Top as my first one, and they have the twelve one as an excerpt to get you hooked into reading it next. I haven't read that yet though. So, Im assuming that all of them have the same  main characters?

Man, Rangeman ... babe!   Steph really has her cake and eats it!

Ok I read Evanovich 1, 2, and 3.  I got 1 & 2 from a used book store in Mich. and I broke down and bought 3.  I owe the library money right now so I cant check anything out and now all I want to do is read the rest of the series.  I got about a dozen books when I was up there and Ive already finished them all.

Now what do i do?
