OK now I'm on this train of thought. What exactly happened to him that got him put on the island. Knowing how badly he wanted off the island I have been thinking that he may have been brought there against his own will. I'm wondering if maybe he had knowledge of something from inside Dharma or Hanso that got him placed there to keep him from telling anyone.
Now the thing I've been thinking it could be is...Biological or Chemical testing on humans. He showed Sayid that video showing what was done to his own village, and blamed it on Sayid's superior officer. What if it was in fact done by Kelvin and his cronies? It seemed to me that even though the group was military they seemed to be a bit on the edge of what may have been regular military actions. I've been thinking for a long time that Dharma/Hanso have affilitaions with the military in some fashion and this would make alot of sense then.
So was Kelvin a man following orders, and then got brought to the island to keep him from telling anyone about what his group had done?? If that's the case then I question why Kates father had been allowed to remain free from this? Or was he bribbed into it? Could Kates Dad (step) have made a deal that he'd keep an eye on here for them if they didn't send him away?

oh my... what a link!!! kate's dad...kelvin...kate... kelvin, in the flashback, did not seem to be too happy with his job as manipulator-of-the-iraqis-to-get-them-to-do-their-own-torture.... i guess this may be what led him to leave the military and join the dharma initiative.. but how did he hear of them?? did kate's stepdad have a connection??? good question!! if he did, and then his stepdaughter ends up on the same island, wow!!! god works in mysterious ways!!! or was it all controlled by some human??
I'm going to stand on the idea that he ended up on the island to keep his mouth shut. He was told it was just his next post, but I think he knew stuff other people didn't want leaked out. Maybe that's the whole thing about the others. Are they all there to keep them away from the real world? Keep them busy on the island, and then just let them out to wherever they send them.
I always thought it was military rooted, but more underground like moreso than the FBI/CIA
I think it's have to be to be able to have all that info of everyone at theuir disposal. The only other explaination is if the losties were actually born and raised and groomed their whole lives by the others. The others seem to have an intriquite knowledge of their private lives. It's too deep for just a person who did a background check or whatever. They'd have to have been with them during all their critical moments to be that knowledgable!
