My roommate and I went crazy at Hollywood video the other night and rented 7 movies. So far we've watched four of them.
Sydney White This one was cute. I liked it. It was a fun take on a classic fairytale. I'd buy it if I were given a gift certificate to a store where I could buy DVDs.
The Singles 2nd Ward Part of the Mormon film phenomenon. You guys wouldn't get 99.9% of the jokes. Sorry.
The Ultimate Gift Great movie. Definitely worth owning.
Waitress Could have been so much better. I really didn't like the fact that it was totally advocating cheating on your spouse. I mean there were four affairs going on in this film. It had so much potential, but it just wasted it. I can't really even give it a rating because I just was so disappointed with it.

I watched The Nanny Diaries last night. It was really good and had more depth than I expected! It was cool that the main character told the story from an Anthropological point of view, which I enjoyed, since Anthropology was my concentration in college.
Just watched "Boondock Saints" the other night, and also D-Wars (AKA: Dragon Wars...Japanese converted to American) First D-Wars was interesting for the fantasy/folklore style of stuff they used. It's based around the japanese/chinese (not sure which) beliefs in mythical creatures that can become dragons (asian style not D&D style). It's interesting, but I could have done without it also. Rental at best, but I'd say hunt it down online if you're interested.
Now on to one of my new all time favorite movies. Yes for some it will be a bit to violent, and it's base of two young men being devoted church going men. They turn a night of drinking at the pub on St. Pattys day with a bar fight, into a almost certain death run in with russian mobsters, and then it goes into them taking out their hatred of "Evil" men and more so he mobsters of the various groups form the Russians to the Italian mob. They turn to a life of killing these men of crime to help the world avoid having to deal with them, and to save innocent people from any harm these evil men could bring. One thing that I loved about this sort of modern day version of Robin Hood was that they never tried to convince the viewer that the two of them (a 3rd guy joins later, but not a big deal) were good guys beyond killing bad guys. The casting of Wilam Defoe as the police detective was pure genious. At the begining they show a bit of the idea that he's a bit of to the side, and doesn't do hings like other Det.'s do. By the end of the movie ou find out that he's gay, he's an alchoholic, and that he believes that what he's doing is helpig the world, but that he envies the two guys he's after for not having to fight all the red tape and BS to get the job done. He ends up helping them at the very end when they go after the Mob Boss that's on trial. They know that he deserves to die for his crimes, and that his trial is a joke, and that he's going to skate on his charges if the trial is allowed to finish. If you can stand the violence I'd say it's a must see, but for most here I'm betting I'll be alon on the list of people loving this movie.
Casablanca. Had to see it, it's a "classic". I find it funny that the one line that people "quote" most from this film isn't actually said in the film.
Dave. Love this film.
My mom and I saw Penelope yesterday. It's so cute. I'm really coming to love James McAvoy, I just wish he would do more movies that I could see. But definitely go see Penelope. It's a good movie with a great heart.

Yea, there was something interesting in McAvoy in just the little bit that I saw of Becoming Jane. I don't know what it is. He's such a little guy, but there's something very present about him.
Okay, so .... The Fountain, SideWays and Dear Frankie. (Gotta have my Gerry.)
Everyone raved about Sweet November and it was depressing!
At least gutwrenching shows like The Pianist and It's a Beautiful life wrap with with some sliver of a bright note - albiet by the end you've already been through so many emotions that you're numb - but still.
