my oldest sister had surgery last nite for an obstructed bowel that burst. these next 48 hours are critical... please prayers.... she is almost 70... and we are not ready to let go of her yet.... thanks

an update on my sister, JAckie... there is improvement in her condition but she is still in grave condition. She isn't using the repirator as much and they did try to reduce the sedation some but it was very stressful on her heart so she is still being heavily sedated. They put Jackie into what is called a hugging bed, airtype mattress which is suppose to help with the circulation of her blood, which is why they did some more heart tests and found that she has suffered a mild heart attack. But she says things are looking up. my brotherinlaw, who is diabetic and had a return of his cancer last year (it spread into his bones) is not eating or taking care of himself... getting worse... they are doing their best to look after him and also checking on homecare... please continue prayers...thanks so much,

Please continue prayers for my sister... Things are not looking good at all. Her condition is still very grave. She is still comatose, altho she did have her eyes open today and she seemed to follow The sound of Clyde's voice. When her eyes were open is when the reg Dr caring for her came in and he stated it was a good sign but other then that she is still on the respirator. They did an MRI and waiting for the results of that and they did a CT scan of the abdomen and tomorrow they are doing an EEG to check brain function, which is what has the Dr most worried and why a Neurologist called. When we were talking to Jack, he came in and did some tests on her and explained many things to us, namely, that while she was going thru everything with the bowel obstruction, her body was fighting that so hard that most of the blood flow was diverted there and litttle went to the brain, that is the main reason she is still comatose so long after they have taken her off the meds. It is also the reason for doing the EEG. Also tomorrow they will do a tracheotomy for air & breathing so they can remove the respirator. Jackie showed a lot of pain when the neurologist did some head movement checking the spinal cord function, something you could tell she didnot like. and afterwards the way she was breathing and gasping, it was almost as tho she was crying in pain. And Clyde, her husband, is nearly a basket case. He wasn't feeling good at all on Mon his sons had to take him into the ER in Moose Lake, he had his friend, Larry, take him into the ER where he was then admitted into the hospital overnight for rehydrating him, as he hasn't been eating or drinking much. His ulcer is back and that is what was upsetting his stomach so badly. He was doing a lot better today. By the way, the reg Dr isn't just a reg MD but a trauma care/surgeon specialist. Jackie is getting excellent care in the Hospital.

Today was a much better day at the hospital and at home. My sister looked better and looked more alert. The Dr is still not sure what caused her to be so sedentary. He said none of the test have shown a stroke or other major brain damage so far. He did say her brain activity was a little sluggish but didn't go on about having to make life style decisions like he did yesterday. We will wait to see the results of this test. She always was a little slow at getting up and moving in the morning. I am optimistic today she is getting better unlike yesterday.

She is officially awake and coherent and able to move body parts on her own. They even had her sitting in a chair while we were there. It helps the keep the lungs from building up fluid and get pneumonia. She was seat buckled in with Velcro straps and was trying to escape by lifting up the Velcro. We are all so pleased. We think she has a much much much better chance of survival now. She is still sick with a blood infection and still has a slight fever from septic poison.
They put the ventilator in through her neck so she can mouth words somewhat. They will remove the ventilator soon but keep the Trach in for suctioning out some of the built up fluids in her lungs.
The CT SCAN, EEG and MRI results all came back normal. She did not have a stroke at all. THANKS TO ALL OF YOU FOR YOUR PRAYERS AND KIND WORDS! TO KNOW THAT I HAVE GOOD FRIENDS LIKE YOU TELLS ME JUST HOW BLESSED I AM AND HOW YOU MAKE THE WORLD A GREAT PLACE TO LIVE IN!
