I cried, "Oh, Lady Midnight, I fear that you grow old, the stars eat your body and the wind makes you cold." "If we cry now," she said, "it will just be ignored."

but what did it mean... if anything goes wrong, desmond hume is my constant...
this episode just about gave me a headache i loved the end though! very nice to see Desmond and Penny finally talk to each other and say i love you to each other
I finally saw the rest of it. I loved how they blended the on island stuff with Desmond and Penny on the eppy where he finds Naomi in the tree. They did the same thing in this episode. Now, will Desmond of 2004 remember the conversation?
Gosh, Sayid has changed in just a small bit. More accepting of stuff he can't explain or see as opposed to his arguement with Shannon when she saw Walt.
I was looking all around and did not see you post! Sayid was pretty cool! He had to fix the computer in the hatch and the phone, both relating to Desmond.
Sometime in 2001 Jack met Desmond in a stadium. He intuitively guessed Jack was worried about a female patient of his and hypothetically questioned whether Jack had really failed to fix her.

He also said it when he tried to leave the island on his boat. I hope they'll be showing a lot more of the Desmond & Penny story.
JACK: Stop.
DESMOND: Oh, right. The code, yeah?
JACK: What?
DESMOND: Listen carefully. If by some miracle you manage to get the computer working again you've got to enter the code: 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42, hit execute. Again: 4, 8, 15...
JACK: Shut up!
DESMOND: Sorry?
JACK: Nothing is going to happen. Some man takes you down there, shows you a movie, and you push a button on, on faith alone? Nothing is going to happen!
DESMOND: In about 15 minutes you're either going to be very right, or very wrong, brother. You want to shoot me? Shoot me. but I'm not...
JACK: Why are you running? You don't even know what you're running from?
DESMOND: I remember you -- running -- I know you -- I met you -- Los Angeles. I was training, yeah? You twisted your ankle...
JACK: Stop.
DESMOND: You're a doctor, right? There was this girl -- you were worried -- you said, you said you failed her. That was you.
JACK: It doesn't matter.
DESMOND: Was she okay, the girl?
JACK: It doesn't matter.
DESMOND: What happened to her?
JACK: It doesn't matter.
DESMOND: How can you say it doesn't matter?
JACK: I married her! [Jack breaks down crying.]
DESMOND: Right, and you're not married to her anymore, then?
[Jack lowers his gun. Desmond goes back to get his pack.]
DESMOND: See you in another life, yeah?
Desmond is finally free from the Island.
Michael probably made it, and Richard leaves sometimes. You just have to know how.
Jacob seems to be stuck between the Island and wherever his constant was.
I cried, "Oh, Lady Midnight, I fear that you grow old, the stars eat your body and the wind makes you cold." "If we cry now," she said, "it will just be ignored."
i have re-watched... and re-written some notes and come up with observations and questions.... i love this epi! so LOST!
in order to get to the boat, frank flew thru a storm. it was storming when they landed. it was storming when rousseau's ship crashed and when des' boat crashed...(maybe the balloon too??) and 815 hit turbulence of some sort... even with the sub... 'the last part of the trip can be a little rough...'
we know there are specific coordinates used to enter and exit the island... if you enter wrong there are 'side effects'...
this brings us back to one of our fundamental questions... were these vessels brought there accidentally or was it their destiny to be there? did the island bring them there? are they there for a purpose and what is that purpose? was this meant to be? was this their future?
I cried, "Oh, Lady Midnight, I fear that you grow old, the stars eat your body and the wind makes you cold." "If we cry now," she said, "it will just be ignored."
if the trajectory isn't right we know there will be side-effects.... being unstuck in time... do we feel safe in saying that this is the sickness? why was rousseau not effected? was the pregnancy protecting her? or is she time-jumping too? the innoculation... does it prevent time-jumping? does it delay time-jumping? the result either way is death... unless you find your constant... fighting the time-jump seemed natural yet it seemed to speed up death... does fighting destiny kill you? does fighting time kill you? or does destiny/time do the job?
I cried, "Oh, Lady Midnight, I fear that you grow old, the stars eat your body and the wind makes you cold." "If we cry now," she said, "it will just be ignored."
if des was conscious in one time he was catatonic in the other.. does this mean your body can be in two times at once but your consciuosness can't?? can you function in more than one time simultaneously?
the brain short curcuit's if you don't have an achor in both time eras... is this also the cure? we know penny is des' anchor... who wanted des to die? who wanted that flashing yellow lite not to be answered? if widmore then he would be keeping des and penny apart... what if it was destiny thatb kept this from happening? they just weren't meant to talk until dec 24, 2004... what if it was someone else? and that is who sayid systematiccally kils in the future?
I cried, "Oh, Lady Midnight, I fear that you grow old, the stars eat your body and the wind makes you cold." "If we cry now," she said, "it will just be ignored."
when first introduced to eloise and you saw the maze, did anyone else flash back to locke's 'every single minute of my poor pathetic life...' speech? where he likens the LOSTies to rats in a maze?? (when they returned to the pearl...)
I cried, "Oh, Lady Midnight, I fear that you grow old, the stars eat your body and the wind makes you cold." "If we cry now," she said, "it will just be ignored."
the black rock set sail march 22, 1845 on a training... (or trading??) mission from (or for) the port of siam.... the only artifact ever found was a journal written by the 1st mate... it was discovered in the artifacts of pirates 7 years later off lu san marie, madagascar.... contents known only to the family of the seller, tobar hanso...
I cried, "Oh, Lady Midnight, I fear that you grow old, the stars eat your body and the wind makes you cold." "If we cry now," she said, "it will just be ignored."
The Black Rock set sail from Portsmouth, England March 22, 1845, purportedly on a trading mission to the Kingdom of Siam. The ship was believed to have been lost at sea. Seven years later, the journal of the ship's first mate was discovered among the artifacts of pirates on Île Sainte-Marie, an island off the coast of Madagascar. This journal was believed to be the only surviving remnant of the Black Rock's ill-fated final voyage. ("The Constant")
A page from the New World Sea Traders book with information about Magnus Hanso and the company's shipping fleet
The Black Rock was allegedly owned and run by the British trading group the New World Sea Traders. The slave trade had been outlawed in 1807, indicating the New World Sea Traders operated in the black market. The company owned a fleet of fifteen ships, including a frigate, two sloops, and three slave ships. The Black Rock may have been one of these slave ships, though they were sold in 1882, a year after the Black Rock disappeared according to Lost Experience sources, suggesting the company may have had actually sixteen ships pre-1881.
The New World Sea Traders was owned and operated by Magnus Hanso, a former ship's captain who became a business entrepreneur. While no direct ownership has been stated, it is known that the Black Rock sailed out of slip 23 in Portsmouth docks, and Hanso's trading group managed slips 18 to 27. [1](although Portsmouth harbor in Britain has been a naval port since the mid 1700s. From 1808 the Royal Navy's West Africa Squadron, who were tasked to stop the slave trade, operated out of Portsmouth).
A different look of the Black Rock, from The Lost Experience
According to articles revealed by Rachel Blake, the Black Rock disappeared in 1881, on a return voyage from a gold mining operation in the South Indian Ocean. Perhaps more interesting than the fact the ship was lost were the circumstances preceding and following its disappearance. According to traders on Papua New Guinea, the ship sailed away from port in an Easterly direction, rather than West to Africa, where it would exchange gold from the mines in Indonesia and Papua New Guinea for more slaves. According to the ship's manifest that was discovered, the Black Rock initially sailed from (and was supposed to return to) slip 23 in Portsmouth, Britain -- but no shipping company claimed ownership. A crew of some 40 men, along with an uncounted number of slaves, was presumably lost at sea.[2] Magnus Hanso was known to still have a hands-on passion for the sea and insisted on captaining several voyages every year. It is likely that he was captaining the Black Rock himself when the ship disappeared, based on the note on the blast door map.
The sale of the company in 1882 to the East Ocean Trade Group saw the remainder of the New World Sea Traders slaving and military vessels converted to legitimate trading ships. In the 1950s, the Hanso Group purchased the East Ocean Trade Group, and renamed it to the Allied Copenhagen Marine Merchants. (Rachel Blake Copenhagen 02)
While investigating the disappearance of Flight 815, Sam Thomas received an email from someone who said that he or she knew Sonya. They sent a picture of her. After noticing incongruities in the image, Sam found four messages in it: "Sunda Trench", "Christiane I", "Black Rock" and "Tell no one - Grave Consequences." On Sam's desktop, a website dealing with the Sunda Trench originally also showed a diagram of a slaveship. (Find 815 clues/January 2)
After he got on board the Christiane I, a new website briefly appeared in Sam's web browser giving a brief history of the Black Rock. His contact, Tracey R also found some facts through research, and contacted Sam via email. Most of the information reiterated clues revealed as part of the Lost Experience, though Tracey drew some inferences not explicitly stated earlier, such as that Magnus may have been onboard the Black Rock when it vanished. Also, the website in Sam's browser claims the Black Rock was one of three slave ships owned by the New World Sea Traders, though there appears some discrepancy as the three ships the company had in 1882 were sold off (a year after the Black Rock disappeared). Thus, the article should presumably say "one of four" at least. (Find 815 clues/January 8)
Talbot's project
It was later revealed that the Christiane I's mission was to search for the wreck of the Black Rock. It is not fully explained why the crew wish to find the wreck, but the expedition supervisor Oscar Talbot, assigned to the ship by The Maxwell Group, commented in an interview that the mission was an archaeological survey of the wreck, which they believed sank in the Sunda Trench in 1881. Okay, so, after taking ZyrtecD and Excedrin Migrain, my sleep was very druggy and weird. All I did was dream about Desmond and time travel.
Now I have questions.
1. In this episode, Desmonds constant was Penny because she existed in both times and he was able to make contact in both times. BUT in flashes, she was not in both times, or rather, he wasn't able to contact her in both times, therefore her being his constant wouldn't have worked? Thus his constant at that time must have been Charlie. He comes in contact with Charlie in the past and he knows Charlie in the present. Maybe this is why he latched onto Charlie the way that he did.
2. What happens when someoone dies while jumping to or from the future. Like, if Des had died on the freighter, would Des have died in 1996? If so, then would that have completly erased Des from the universe period?
3. Jack and Hurley BOTH have said in the future ... "We're not supposed to be here. " Have they then jumped from the past and into the future and so when we are seeing the flashforwards, we're really seeing present island jumping into off island? Or vice versa? Future Jack and Hurley, possibly Kate and Sayid jumping into the past?
Michael might be on the freighter, but I'm guessing that maybe Frank opened the door for Des and Sayid Thursday night. There was a spoiler about him being softheareted towards couples. Something to that effect.
A big hello from New Orleans! I'm going to ask a couple of direct but indirect questions here. Meaning of course, that there's really another question behind it and I think, if I'm on the money, you'll know what it is. If not, well, have some fun with it!
1. So, theoretically, if the Jack who tried to jump off the bridge was island Jack or even preisland Jack, if he'd died ... would that have then erased Jack from the past?
2. Was Charlie Desmonds constant during his past jump in season three's "Flashes" ?
3. Is the phrase "I'm not supposed to be here/We're not supposed to be here. " Spoken by Jack and Hurley in the future and now Desmond from 1996 significant to the arch of the story, like "See you in Another Life" or just an Easter egg?
I was looking all around and did not see you post! Sayid was pretty cool! He had to fix the computer in the hatch and the phone, both relating to Desmond.
I can guess who Sayid's 'constant' is!

I liked when the showed the arial of the feighter, Sayid was strolling on the deck, arms folded with a pensive expression.
I cried, "Oh, Lady Midnight, I fear that you grow old, the stars eat your body and the wind makes you cold." "If we cry now," she said, "it will just be ignored."

i don't think that a constant in a person's life changes... once it is there, it stays there forever... in fbye, des began his time jumping...he became unstuck in time.... he did find his picture of penny from the hatch... i don't think contacting the person is what counts... i think it's more having the thought of that person with you in your heart and mind that anchors you to the time and space that you are in. the person has to be important enough in your life to keep you on an even keel.... to keep your feet on the ground while your head is in the clouds....

no. you cannot change the future. if you die now, or if you die in the future, it has no effect on your past. you always exist in the past. the bigger question is, does anyone ever die befoe they should? if he had died in 1996, would there be someone else to take over and carry on his destiny? do we have a set time period to be alive? or do we live until we complete our life's mission?
Daniel didn't say it had to be a person, btw. Something that exists in both times. He couldn't contact Penny on the island prior to the freighter. Penny didn't exist on the island. therefore, she couldn't have been his constant in Flashes.
Des is Daniels constant because he exists in both times. Now, should Daniel jump to a period beyond when Des was lost at sea and before they met on the island, Des couldn't be his constant.
