I got to work by the horses a couple of nights this week. It was a nice spot. Except for those darn mosquitos! I'm dealing with a bunch of bites again...
I heard. *Jealous scowl* Mosquitos are no fun. Be glad you weren't bit by horseflies though. Those are nasty.
i had to go catch a horse the other day it got out of the yard where it should have been so i had to go catch it. it belongs to a neighbor of ours.
horseflies are really nasty
Did the horse make it difficult for you to catch it? Sometimes they can be tricksy that way.
I've never been bit by a horsefly, but I don't have to to know that would be no fun. Those suckers are huge!
it didn't try to run from me or anything, and it had a halter on. it didn't want to walk though with just me pulling on the halter, and i didn't have any rope in my truck to tie to it( the horse was walking up the dirt road, that's why i was in my truck) but i just happened to spot a piece of orange baleing twine on the road so i got out and used that to lead the horse back to the house. i had to go back and pick up my truck later, of course.
*Holds tongue in check* It's so nice when they're easy to catch. If you could ever find an excuse, mention to your neighbors that keeping the halter on all the time can lead to trouble. If they don't want to lose their horse they might listen.

IR, if you find you're guarding horses again, you'll want to go to a Petsmart or Petco, or an IFA if they have any in CA, and get horse cookies and a bucket. If any horses escape, just have the cookies in a bucket and shake it. The curiosity will quite likely overcome skittishness and not-wanting-to-be-caught attitudes.
That's good to know! Thanks!
You're welcome. It would help, too, if you slipped the horses a cookie or two in the night. That way if one escapes, and they've seen where you get the cookies from, they'd be even more likely to make a beeline for the bucket and then you don't have to waste time and energy trying to catch them. (Bored horses will play with whatever they can, most often whatever locking mechanism holds them in their stall, paddock, corral, or pasture. Really clever ones will eventually figure out how to get out if it's at all possible. And there's always the off-chance that someone will forget to latch the gate properly and the horses then will use that to their advantage to stage a jail-break.)

There was one horse who liked to kick. He kept kicking his fence so I wouldn't be surprised if he managed to get out somehow.

Yes, they can. Very wily. Especially if they get bored.

If you guard the same horses again, or any horses, feed those kinds of ones cookies. That'll help you if they escape. Also, learn their names if you can. Sometimes they'll stop soon as their name is called. (My mom's horse, Raymond, does if it's the right people and if he feels like it.)

i don't think they leave the halter on the time. they had just gotten home and had unloaded the horse from the trailer. i think the horse got free after they tied him up so they could finish unloading.

*Confused expression* *Shrug* So long as they don't leave the halter on all the time then I'm fine. If they trailer their horse letting the horse stick his head outside the trailer, that's another matter. They should stop that (letting him ride with his head out the window) if they want to keep their horse. *Steps off soapbox*

I was a little disappointed that they didn't have their names on their stalls, just the breed. Especially the baby, he was making some noise and I was talking to him a little bit. They might feel more at ease if I knew them by name.

There was a baby! I think the only thing cuter than a puppy is a foal. (Personal opinion.) I love their knobbly knees and the heads that seem slightly too big for their bodies.

I need to get to the library. I just finished Chamber of Secrets. I want to get Twilight..
Tsk Tsk. Should finish Harry Potter first. On second thought, save the rest of HP for after you've read the Twilight books. Then ask my why I recommended it if you didn't figure it out for yourself. (It has to do with a certain annoying character in the Twilight saga.)

Dunno. But peace and quiet have been bliss this past week. I think I'm still recovering from the week spent sitting my nephew and sister-in-law. (More to do with the busy-ness of my nephew and the stress level surrounding us.)

I was going to kind of switch off between the two series. I have Prisoner of Azkaban but I thought I'd read Twilight first.

Spoiler
I just find Bella and most of the other characters so ridiculous that I had to move on to read something with a larger cast of characters whom I could like and not find insipid.

I'm glad you've had a peaceful week!
Thanks! It's just been nice to not be chasing after a two-year-old all the time and to be able to have my time to myself and not have to be worried about what mischief he's getting into when he wanders out of sight.
