The sun is just starting to rise, and the sky is blue. The survivors of flight 815 are just starting there day. This however is not their story. This is the story of Travis the tree frog. These events shall be told through the eyes of a frog. Day 1 *Yawn* What a good night sleep. I do so enjoy sleeping. I think today I shall head down to the beach for some sun. Maybe I'll catch up with the puppy I see running around here all the time. He seems to be really excited all the time. I'm not sure if he's happy or is it just him being a dog. I'll have to ask him when I see him next. Well I got to the beach, and it seems like it's business as usual here. The sun is shining so I'll stay nice and warm on this rock. I noticed some commotion between a couple of those humans. One of them was yelling at another. Not long after that the little guy pulled his hood over his head and walked off into the jungle. I think that guy with no hair could be a little nicer. He seems like he is always worried about something. Oh well there's nothing I can do about that. I'm just a frog. I was just heading back from the beach, and I ran into Montague the monkey on my way. He's talking about taking a jaunt into the jungle for some bananas and has invited me. I told him I couldn't because I've got to start looking for a date. So he went off on search of his lunch, and now I've gotta start my search. Whew...All this croaking sure dries out a fellas throat. I think I will stop my search for my next conquest, and hop on over to the caves for a swim and a drink. Oh man this water feels great. I can't think of anything better after a long journey, and a day spent on the beach than a nice swim in this cool water. Oh $hit I better get out. Here comes someone. I still can't figure out why some people insist on coming here for water. I know that they got into that place in the ground, and Montague tells me that he's heard rumor that there is food and everything in there. He really seems to be interested in those people. He said if they keep taking his "Nanners" he's going to start an army and go after anyone looking to take more. That's one monkey I wouldn't mess with. He's got a really good arm I see him practicing his poo flinging at least 2-3 times a day, and he's the best I've seen. If he gets a group of his friends in on this it could be a real mess. I think I'll just stay the night here and head back to the trees tomorrow. I like the cool moisture here, and I think I might have heard a female somewhere nearby. This is Travis signing off for the day

After a wonderful night spent in the good company of "Nathan" the newt, and my new love "Fergie" the tree frog. I’m looking forward to another great day in the jungle. Well my night started nicely enough. When I was hanging out near the pool of water in the cave I had a nice talk with "Pete" the parrot. He’s very talkative, but I have trouble figuring out what he’s talking about. It seems like he just says the same things over and over again. He’s like "give Pete a cracker", and I had to finally tell him I didn’t have any and told him to go ask Montigue. Once he left I found a nice little nook in the rocks to hang out in while I warmed up. While I was there Nathan stopped by, and asked if I had seen "Terry" the tree finch. I told him I heard him complaining to "Billy" the boar about not having enough food not long ago. And they were just outside the caves not long before he stopped in. I mentioned to Nate that I had seen a small pile of passion fruits on the ground just around the corner from the hole the humans had found that metal thing in. After a quick swim Nate headed off to find Terry and let him know where to get the fruit. I think he was only doing it to get those damn kids of Terry’s to shut up. Since Nate’s home is only a couple trees from Terry’s.
Now is when the night got very good. After Nate left I was sitting around eating a few random flies that were hanging around those old human bones up on the ledges. While there I noticed another frog hop in, and head towards the pool. After I finished eating I figured I might as well go see who it was. This is when I just about fell off the ledge of the pool. I was looking (more like staring) at the most beautiful creature I’d ever seen. She was swimming around the pool, and I could do nothing but just watch her. She is the most graceful swimmer I’ve ever seen. That’s when I knew I needed to go up and introduce myself. She must have seen me watching her, because that’s when she started swimming towards me. When she got out of the water right next to me I was almost knocked over by her smile.
Now is where I thought I need to be really smooth. Of course I wasn’t. My first words to her almost made me want to kick my own a$$. "Hey beautiful...Come here often?" Lucky for me she’s got a great sense of humor, because she just chuckled and told me this was her first visit. After that we spent the next few hours talking. Fergie told me that she had come here because she needed to move away from the waterfall pool that she used to live near. It was a great place to live until those two humans landed in the pool. She mentioned that they must really like swimming. Since they have been down in the water ever since the got there. They had a couple other humans come visit one day, but they only stopped for a little bit When they left they were carrying a metal case, and nobody has stopped by since. Even Billy has stopped coming by for his daily drinks.
I told her she was welcome to stay here, or if she wanted I knew of a couple nice trees close to where I live that were open. I offered to show them to her, but she said that for now she’d like to stay closer to the pool of water. She thanked me for the offer, and just before she went off to find a place to sleep for the night........Oh she gave me a small kiss. I just about fell into the pool after she left. I think I might have if Nate hadn’t come back for a drink before he headed home for the night. He caught me just before I fell in. He asked what that was all about? So I gave him the short version of my night with Fergie. He just smiled and said goodbye.
Well that’s what happened, and I’m now a very happy little frog.
I’ve been thinking about heading over to see Montigue again today. I’m not really sure if I should though. I don’t agree with him trying to gather an army. I understand that he needs to eat, but what about just going for a little walk to get something to eat. I mean he’s a monkey. It wouldn’t take long to just swing off to a different area for a bit. He could eat, check out the island, and maybe even find himself a better home. He’s always complaining of being awakened by loud noises in the middle of the night. He also says the smell of the ocean bothers his nose. I guess that’s just him though. He’s too stubborn sometimes. Well I’ll go visit him anyways, because I need to check up on Billy. Nate told me last night that he was worried that Billy got himself involved with the humans on the beach. This has got to be the saddest day ever. I went to go see Billy and when I couldn’t find him I decided that I would ask Monty when I got to his place. When I got to Monty’s I found him at the base of his tree crying. I thought at first that he had fallen out of the tree. Well he did fall, but he wasn’t crying because of that. He was crying because…*sniffle* because Billy was dead. I didn’t believe him at first, but then he said he’d show me. He had me jump onto his back, and then off went. When we got closer to Billy’s bed I noticed lots of footprints, and hoof prints. It was a mess. Monty told me that this was where that bald human and a couple of his friends attacked Billy. I asked Monty to take me to the beach. He didn’t want to, but I asked him again, and told him it would be faster than me going there alone. Well when we got there it was almost dark, but I could see many of the humans around a fire. Then I looked a little closer at the fire…..OMG!!!!! They had Billy’s body tied to a stick, and it was over the fire. I could see clearly that he was dead, but why? There’s more than enough fruit in the jungle for all of them. They didn’t have to do this. At this moment I turned to Monty and told him that I would join his army, and I would do whatever I could to get help for him, and the rest of us animals in the jungle. Later that night I watched as the humans tore Billy apart, and ate him. They were laughing and joking with each other. I have now got the task in my mind that in the near future, I along with whomever I can get to join will start to make the humans regret their actions.
R.I.P. Billy the boar A good friend, he left us to early
After a very depressing day yesterday I was hoping today would be better. It started out a bit rough when I awoke to find that one of Billy’s brothers (Babu) had gone into the human camp last night and terrorized one of the humans. After running into the woods Babu thought he had gotten away, and that would be the end of it. But it turned out that he really pi$$ed this fellow off. The human ended up running out into the Jungle to find him. The human didn’t go alone either. He brought another with him, and they found Babu after a short while. Babu was not about to end up like his younger brother though, and started a bit of a scrape with him. After a bit of a tussle the human just decided to let the issue go. Babu was a bit confused by this, but wasn’t going to make things worse. They both ended up going they’re separate ways. Monty then told Babu that he’d keep an eye on the humans for the rest of the day. Monty got home just after dark and told us that the two humans were just sitting by a fire talking, and hadn’t done much of anything since the altercation. My day was a bit more boring than that. I ended up getting together with Fergie, and we spent most of the afternoon hanging out on a rock near the beach. She was telling me about herself, and I just spent most of my time with her listening, nodding my head, and saying "uh huh". I am totally falling for her. When we were leaving, and ready to go to our own homes she gave me a kiss, and told me she really liked spending time with me. My reply was along those lines, but I stumbled a bit. I still told her I liked her also, but sometimes I just stumble on my words around pretty ladies. It made me feel great that she just giggled, and gave me another kiss before leaving. Well I was just about to call it a day when I noticed that dog that hangs out with the humans come flying past my tree. I watched for a bit, but he was running to fast and was soon gone. I wonder what that dog is up to? He’s always running around in the jungle. He spends some time on the beach also, but more and more he’s in the jungle. I’ll have to check with Monty, Terry, or Nate to see if they know anything about what he’s been doing. Well tomorrow is going to be a big day. Going to head out with Monty and his friends to get them some nanners, and maybe stop at the caves for a swim
I was up day at first light. Monty and his other monkey pals were up and wanted to get going. So after a quick stretch, and a little scratching of my unmentionables I hopped on over to Monty’s tree and off we went. The trip into the jungle was pretty dull. The only interesting thing I noticed was the little dog (Monty calls him Vincent) running back towards the beach. We finally found a nice grove that had not only a large supply of "nanners" for Monty and company, but also a rather nice view of the open plain in the middle of the island. Granted you needed to be up pretty high in the trees to see, but it was worth it. It was so beautiful, and that’s also when I noticed something else. Some of the humans were there. A few of them were swinging sticks, and I saw them strike a white rock with their sticks. After hitting the rocks they would walk to where the rock stopped, and hit it again. I guess they must like hitting the same rocks. Me personally…I would just grab another rock, and hit that one. Just another odd thing these humans do I figure. Monty called me over not long after I had decided to settle in for a nap. So rather than getting comfy, and enjoying some sunshine I headed back down to the ground. This is where things get a bit weird. When I got to the ground Monty was all freaked out. He was jumping around, and yelling really loud. After getting him to calm down I asked him what was going on. Monty then told me that his brother Dexter had just seen Patty running after a few of the humans. Patty was chasing them into the vine grove. From what Dexter told us it sounded like she was still really pi$$ed off about her man Peter getting shot and killed awhile back. Not to say that I blame her, but we didn’t think that doing the same thing as Peter was going to be very helpful to Patty. She could very easily end up getting hurt or worse. So even though it was just starting to rain, and the sun was getting a bit low in the sky we ran off in the direction that Dexter said that he had seen them going. When we got there Patty had "The Orange Man" and a darker colored human caught up in a tree, and we also noticed that she had trapped the little human that runs around with Vincent on the beach all the time. After talking between ourselves we decided to do what we could to get Patty out of there before something happened to her. So while Dexter ran interference, and was distracting the two humans in the tree. Monty and myself got in close to Patty, and tried to get her attention. Trying to get the attention of a big white bear is tough enough, but when she’s mad. You better look out. She nearly took out Monty. If not for a quick jump to the side he’d be gone. I took this chance to jump up onto her back. When I got on her back, and had steadied myself. I climbed up near her ear, and yelled to her to stop. She heard me the second time. After looking around, and realizing that some of her friends were there she calmed down just a bit, and listened to us. While still keeping an eye on the humans she waited for us to explain that this wasn’t going to make her feel better, and that she should let them go. I told her that if she hurt one of them, more of them would come into the jungle looking for her, and maybe they would hurt someone else also. While we were talking the humans used this break to lift the little one to safety. After one quick glance at them she came to her senses, and decided we were right. So off we all ran into the jungle. All of us hoping that the humans didn’t follow us, and try to get revenge. Well they didn’t come after us, and after a short while we all stopped and decided it was time to turn in for the night.
Up with the birds today. After last night I’m not sure this whole trip for nanners is turning out like we expected. Patty is still mad, but has realized the trouble it could cause if she goes after the humans again. Plus we asked her if she knew for sure that one of the three humans she had trapped were the ones who killed Peter. She said she didn’t know for sure. She just wanted to get even with the humans. So after a short talk it was decided that we would look into it for her so we could find out exactly which human did kill Peter. Patty was ok with that and headed home. With that trouble over Monty, his friends, and I went off to the nanner grove. They ate till they were full, and then colleted some nanners to take with them. While they were eating I decided to look around the area. Since I had never been to this part of the Jungle. Not much to say about it other than it’s more jungle. I was turning back and something caught my eye. I’m not sure what it was, but I could swear it looked like a horse. I went in search of it, but I could never hope to hop fast enough to keep up with a monkey let alone a horse. So I stored away that little nugget of info to be thought about later. As I was on my way back I heard Monty talking with his friends. They were all yelling and talking about getting even with the humans on the beach. A couple of them were trying to remind the rest of them about what happened when they went after the group of humans that live in the jungle. I decided it might be time to take my leave of the monkey madness for a bit. I went off in search of something a little less violent. I didn’t really find much, but I guess that works. It was still not violent, and/or loud. I lay down on a branch near the upper part of a tree, and just enjoyed the calm. Then I set my mind to thinking about that horse.
(This is what I thought about the horse, and a few other odd things I’ve run into)
Now in most respects I don’t get how a horse could be here on this little island. I suppose the humans could have brought it with them, but I don’t get why they would do that. This island has some open land and beaches, but I wouldn’t think they would go off riding a horse for the fun of it. Maybe there is another reason for it being here. I also wonder if there is another horse. I hope so for the sake of the horse’s sanity. I mean how much would it $uck if you were totally alone in a place like this? Then while I was thinking about the horse I thought about Patty… She’s a bear, but not just any bear. She’s a polar bear. I remember her telling Monty and I one day that her kind are usually found in places that are very cold, and that Peter (god rest his soul) didn’t remember how they got here on this island. So That got me thinking about how many other animals are around here that don’t belong here. Maybe I’m not even supposed to be here. HHMMMMMM…..I guess that’s something I’ll have to think about the next chance I get to relax.
I ended up falling asleep up in that tree. I slept most of the morning away, but that was cool, because now it’s the nice warm part of the day. I climbed down and went looking for the monkey brigade. Only to my surprise they were gone. Even Monty had left. I guess he must have thought that since I wasn’t around that I headed home on my own. I decided that I would hang out around here for today, and head back home in the morning. I ended up watching some more of the humans hitting rocks for a bit, and then after eating I climbed back up the tree for a good long rest. It’s too bad that didn’t happen. L I was just falling asleep when I thought I heard something in the jungle below me. I called out real quick, but nobody answered. I thought at first I was hearing things, but then I found out the hard way I wasn’t. All of a sudden I hear this super loud sound, and it’s heading in my direction. I looked around, but couldn’t see anything. When I finally noticed where the sound was coming from I tried to climb down to the ground to find a safe place to hide. I didn’t make it all the way down before something threw the tree I was in into the air. The tree and I landed a good ways away from where we originally started, and I was really dizzy. When I got my head straight everything was quiet, and there was no sign of whatever had just tore through the jungle. As I found a little hole in the ground near the base of a large rock I gave one last thought on what had just happened. That thought was….D amn you Monty why did you take off without me? And…WHAT THE FLUCK JUST HAPPENED? Sleep capture me not long after that.
I awoke this morning feeling very refreshed. This surprised me after the day I had yesterday. After a nice stretch, and a quick meal (horseflies are my fav J) I decided to check into what happened last night. I looked around, and noticed that only the tree I was in got messed up. So what was that all about? After looking around the hole in the ground, and all of the area nearby I noticed one very strange thing……No tracks. Whatever it was didn’t leave any kind of trail behind to follow. Well Since there was no way to find out anything more about that I decided to go looking for Monty. I didn’t find any sign of him until I was half way home. Then I found sign of the group. One sure-fire sign of any group of pi$$ed off monkeys. That being…POO. At some point during the groups traveling someone must have gotten mad, and proceeded to start a poo flinging fight. It was a terrible scene, and I left this area as soon as I found tracks leading away. Then to my surprise I just about fell right on top of Monty. He was lying in the bushes a little ways down the trail, and he didn’t look good. So when I couldn’t wake him (hey I’m a small frog give me a break) I hopped off as fast as I could, yelling and looking for someone to help. After a little while of random searching, and no luck finding any help. I decided to go back, and stay with him until he wakes up. When I got back I found that not only was he awake, but that he was really angry. I asked him what had happened to him, and when he told me all I could do was laugh. (sorry Monty) He relayed his story to me, and told me how after a short poo fight everyone settled down, and decided to head to the grove for a few more nanners before going home. As they were heading away from the area of the fight Monty thought he noticed something behind him. He wasn’t sure what it was so he decided to slow down, and try to find out. He told the rest of his group to go on without him, and that he’d see them tomorrow at the grove. He then told me he was looking around for what he thought was a horse. As he started looking for signs of this imaginary horse he heard a sound from around the corner. He walked towards it, and just as he peeked his head around he corner….. He got a face full of hoof. He doesn’t remember anything after that until just before I showed up. So while he was getting his wits about him I went and looked for a trail. Sure enough I noticed 4 hoof prints heading in the direction of the beach. So once he got up, and moving around a bit we headed off towards the beach, and followed the prints. When we reached the beach we did not end up finding anything. The tracks led us out onto the beach nearly ¼ of the way around the island from our homes. One good thing about this was that we found a great tidal pool to swim in. Monty and I took our time, and relaxed in there for nearly an hour. After that I climbed on up, and we started off for home. But as you can guess that didn’t last long. This was turning out to be another one of those days. We had no sooner headed back into the jungle, and BAM!!! We get bowled over. I went flying off into the underbrush, and when I was getting to my feet I could hear someone shouting. All be damned if it wasn’t Babu. He was running as fast as I’d ever seen. Then not far behind was Betty. At first I thought that she was chasing him. But to my surprise (and Monty’s) she wasn’t. They were both running from a very large lion. I’d never seen any of them on this side of the island before, but at that moment I wasn’t about to try and chat with him. I grabbed onto Monty and up into the trees we went. After the lion ran past us Monty and I hurried after them. Not long after that we heard screams. Then it was silent again. When we came around the bend in the trail the first thing we saw was blood. There was blood all over the leaves, and the trail. But I didn’t expect to see Betty, and Bapu standing there. They were looking down at the lion. He was a bit of a mess. Come to find out that they had decided to stop and together try to fight the lion. When the lion turned the corner he was so surprised to see them standing there that when he moved to avoid running into them he ran into a tree. So here we are. Looking at a bleeding lion, and trying to figure out what to do with him. Since it looked like he was going to be out for a while we all decided to stay there with him, and confront him when he woke up. So now I’m of to bed, and hoping that the lion doesn’t eat us all while we sleep. I guess we’ll see what happens tomorrow.
As you can imagine not one of us could sleep very well last night. It ended up being a series of Monty, Betty, Bapu, and myself all trying to sleep, but none of us doing so. Now the sun is starting to come up and it is finding it’s way through the branches of the trees. It feels wonderful and I think all of us are feeling a bit more refreshed by the warm rays of the sun. All of us except the lion of course. He is just starting to come around, and we have all decided to stay right next to him. This may sound a little ridiculous and normally I would agree, but in preparation for the lion waking up. Monty went and found himself a nice large stick, and a good size rock. Bapu and Betty were poised to gore him, and I was....Well I’m just a frog. I’ll stay on the low branch, and try not to get in the way.
OMG!! I just realized that I’ve been talking about Betty, and never even said who she is. Well you might have guessed, but for those who haven’t. Betty is Bapu’s girl. They are far from being married, but they’re together, and that’s also a story for another day.
Now back to this lion situation. As he started to stir I decided that since I couldn’t help physically I’d try to help another way. I started talking to him. I told him my name, asked him to stay calm, and I also asked his name. He looked around with a groggy head, and decided to just lie there for a bit. He also decided to answer my question. He stated that his name was Cliff, and he wanted to also know what had happened to him. Monty tried to start telling him that our little group had ambushed him and that if he knew what was good fo him he’d just leave us alone. Cliff was thinking about this when I decided it would be better to not let this get out of hand. I told Cliff that Monty wasn’t telling the truth, and I told him about his running into the tree last night. This seemed to get Cliff a bit upset , and when he started to rise we all thought that things were about to get really ugly. As he was getting up he gave Monty a bit of a sneer, and didn’t even bother to pay any attention to Betty and Bapu. Lucky for us he was a bit more level headed than any of us gave him credit for. Cliff asked us where the nearest water was, and if we would be nice enough to give him directions. Without knowing why I decided to offer my services as a guide, and told him I’d go with him as long as he’d give me a lift. I told him that I was longing for some nice cool water myself. Cliff agreed to this, and off we went. At first the rest of my friends started to follow us until Cliff stopped and said he needed some time to figure things out. He also mentioned that until his head was straight he didn’t suggest that they come with us. After assuring my friends that I was ok they all headed for the beach.
Now I wasn’t sure why I offered to go with Cliff. I think it was curiosity, but I’m not really sure. It was a silent journey for about the first half of the walk, but then Cliff surprised me and started asking me questions. He started off asking me my name, and why I decided to show him the water. I told him my name was Travis, and admitted that I was curious how he ended up on this side of the island. Since I was unaware of there being any lions on our side of the island. After a very kind "nice to meet you" he told me what he could of his coming to this side of the island.
Cliff was telling me of a group of humans on the other side of the island that kept taking him and his wife. They would take them to this weird cave for a few days at a time, and while they were there they usually kept them separated from one another. He said they would poke him with these really small and sharp metal sticks about 4 times a day. The humans would just sit and watch what he did all day. His wife Devine would tell him the same things happened to her when they would be let go. Cliff said that this had happened to him about 4 or 5 times now, and this last time when he woke up outside the human cave he realized that something wasn’t right. He couldn’t find Devine, and nothing looked like the places he knew. His lair was nowhere to be found, and when he searched for his friends they were all gone. Next Cliff went on to explain that he had come across a white dog (who I told him was named Vincent), and that the dog mentioned that there might be someone over near the beach that could help him. That’s where he was heading when he first spotted Bapu and Betty. He called out to them, and they didn’t seem to hear him at first. So he decided to head over to talk to them. That’s when the chase started. When the two boars took off running he gave chase. He continued to yell to them that he wasn’t going to hurt them, and that he needed help. I explained what had recently happened to Billy, and when he heard that Cliff gave a nod that he understood why they ran.
When we arrived at the cave I introduced Cliff to Nathan and Terry who were there having a little water fight. After a short swim and a little lunch I decided I had time to get home. I figured I needed a night at home, and maybe I’d run into Fergie. I bid Cliff, Terry, and Nathan goodbye, and off to home I went.
As I was heading home I started to think about what the humans might have been doing to Cliff and his wife. Also why was he over on this side of the island and not knowing how he got here?
As I got home I was pleasantly surprised to see that not only was Fergie there, but it looked as though she had actually moved into the same tree as me. I thought to myself "things are finally looking up after three days of mass confusion". I gave her a big kiss, and just settled in for the night.
I can’t believe how nice today was. After the last few days of craziness I finally got some rest, good food, and of course some lovin from Fergie. She has indeed decided so move to my tree on a permanent basis. I think we are going to be very happy together now that she’s close by. I hope to spend lots of time with her. It sure was nice to get back to the beach and enjoy the sun for a while. After getting some sun I decide to just go take a closer look at the humans on the beach. I watched the same that Patty had caught in the tree and another guy I hadn’t seen before. They seemed to be building something, but I don’t really understand what. They have been cutting a lot of the trees lately, and of course that has Terry all pi$$ed off. He’s telling everyone that the humans need to be taught a lesson now because pretty soon there will be no trees left. So now the birds and the monkeys are all upset with the humans. Who’s next? Maybe the fish in the ocean will start getting upset cause the one human seems to catch a bunch of them every day. Well when it comes to the fish I think it would just be common sense. When you see him coming...leave. It can’t be that hard to find food that they need his bait, and that net has really big holes in it. I mean come on fish..use your brains. But I think I’ll step down from my soapbox now.
When I got back to my tree I was greeted by Cliff, Terry, and Nathan. Nathan told me that Cliff was interested in seeing the humans on the beach. He didn’t look mad, just curious so I told him that if he wanted to go we could head out in the morning. I told him that was better since it’d be dark soon, and then we could get closer in to their camp before they started waking up. Cliff agreed that it was better to wait. I left them to go see Fergie, but before I got too far, Nathan caught up to me and mentioned that he thought Cliff was up to something. I decided to tell him that I thought the same thing, but what were we going to do. Really Nathan..He’s a BIG F"N LION!!! If he’s up to something we aren’t going to be stopping him. Even if Patty and Bapu were around I don’t think it would matter. Nathan agreed, and asked to stay in my tree tonight. He said it was because he could keep an eye on Cliff better from there, but I know he’s just scared. I decided that one night away from Fergie wouldn’t do me any harm, and if it made Nathan feel better why not.
I spent the rest of the evening checking in with a few of the locals to let them know about Cliff being around, and that as of now he wasn’t there to eat anyone. Monty was just about ready to gather the troops and go after him when I first told him. After calming him down and telling him that he still may be needed before it’s all said and done. He was off like a flash to warn his brethren, and I continued on my way. I found a few more locals, and warned them, but as I progressed out farther I found that word of Cliff had spread, and although it was a Lion, and he should be feared not many were afraid. In fact by the time I got back to my tree I found that I would be sharing my tree with more folks than just Nathan tonight. Most were there just to say they got to see the lion, but most were there (as Monty had told them) to protect our way of life.
Now I love Monty, but he sure does have a flair for the over-dramatic sometimes. I know he’s just looking out for all of us , but I would still like to give Cliff the chance to show his true colors regardless of what they are. If he is in earnest, and he only wants to see them because he wants to see if they are the same ones who messed with him and his wife. Then in that case he will make a very strong friend to have around if we need him against the humans. If he is in fact just out to hurt us then I actually think with the coming morning and the coming reinforcements ( Patty and Bapu) that we will be just fine.
Well it’s late, and now that my branch is taken I must head up higher, and with a full day ahead of me I think it’s time to turn in. Here’s hoping that with the morning comes a new friendship, and not a battle for our lives.
Well today I’m going to tell you about the dream I had last night. I swear that these dreams have been coming much more frequently since the humans got here. It always seems to be the same thing. It all starts with me waking up in my tree, and finding Fergie resting next to me. After a quick potty break I come back to wake her up. Only to find that she’s gone, and there’s no sign of where she went or that she was even there. As I begin to look around I can’t seem to find anyone. Monty, Bapu, Betty, Terry, Nathan, and Patty are all gone. There’s not even a mark on the ground to show where they went. I decide to head to the beach, and see if anyone is hanging out there. When I get there *Shudders* I find that indeed someone is there. The humans have all of my friends gathered up in little cages, and even Nathan and Fergie are being held in glass bottles. After watching for a little bit I decide I need some outside assistance. So off I go to see if I can find Cliff or any of the wolves that I’ve seen around. After a couple hours I find nobody who can help. In fact the only thing at all that I could find were the small band of meerkats, and as chicken as they are I didn’t bother to ask for their help. So back to the beach I went. I decided to just stake out the humans for a bit, and see what they were up to. Then to my horror…they took Bapu, and killed him. I know that humans eat meat, but to see that scene was totally repulsive. They cooked him in a huge hole in the ground. I decided I needed to do something before things got out of hand. So when the humans all headed off to eat, and all my friends were left alone I made my move. I headed to Try and free Monty first. I figured with him free he’d be the most help in freeing the rest of them. Just as I got the latch open, and Monty was ready to get out. The bald man came back, and was looking for something. He did leave after a few minutes, but I was worried he’d spot the open lock on the cage. So as Monty and I started to set more of our friends free I heard some commotion from the edge of the jungle. As I started to turn around I found myself trapped. Dam.n !!! How could I not hear them coming. The humans had come from the jungle, and managed to catch all of us. Even the few who had already been set free were back in the hands of the humans. Now in my dream a couple days go by, and when I wake up one morning I decide to try again to escape, and somehow I do. So as I run to the edge of the jungle I see one of the humans heading towards the cages. Now by this time the only ones left were Monty, Terry, and myself. I figure this is because humans don’t eat little frogs, undersized birds, and well I don’t know why Monty was still around. I decided to try and get his attention. So I start croaking as loud as I possibly can. At first it doesn’t seem to matter. Then after a couple minutes the human stops pestering Monty, and heads back to his shelter. Well now I’m thinking for some reason that I have some power over this human. So I stay on the edge of the jungle, but I follow him to his place of rest. As he sits down to relax I start croaking as loud as I can again. This time I add in a nice rhythm. It ends up sounding a little bit like a bird’s call. Now I continue this for near an hour, and just as I think I should give up the human steps out of his place yelling and looking very upset. I don’t know if it was my croaking, or something else at first. Then I notice he seems to be listening and looking for something. Well I start up again, and he starts going nuts. Finally he stops the one really big human, and after a few moments they both start looking around. That’s when I realize that it’s working. But that’s not quite what I wanted. I was trying to get their attention, but I didn’t want them out looking for me. Now I have to run away. So I would run away for a bit. Stop, and then croak loudly for a period of time. I continued this for quite some time, and I thought that I had lost them. I was very wrong. As I was resting on a log I was startled to find that I was now facing my captors, and I didn’t know what to do. As the big human started to get closer I decided to make one last try to get away. I jumped with everything my little legs had. I got right over the big guy’s shoulder, but just as I thought I might make it. I end up getting caught by the human standing behind him. Now as I look up at him he starts to talk to the big guy. It looks like everything is going to be OK. Then as I look up I see his hand coming towards me, and *POOF* that’s when I wake up. Now I sit up right after this, and look over to see the sweet face of Fergie sleeping next to me. I know it’s only a dream, but wow it sure did seem real. This is Travis signing off.
Well you’d think after all the running around on this island that I’ve done lately, and the various places I slept that just being in a different branch of my own tree wouldn’t affect me. Wrong..I got no sleep at all last night. Between the chatter from the extra visitors, and the dream I had when I did fall asleep. I’m now very tired. I’m hoping if I talk to Cliff he’ll give me a lift to the beach, and I can sleep a bit on the way. I’m really hoping things get straightened out soon. I need a few days and nights of R & R. As I figured Monty not only was already here when I awoke, but he had a few of his pals with him. (Well Monty I hope you’re wrong) When we finally got everyone ready to go I had to try and convince a large group of meerkat, and a pack of wolves that their services wouldn’t be needed. At first they resisted the idea. Saying that if Cliff went bonkers, or the humans attacked that they would be needed. After talking to Monty and a few of his pals they decided that a smaller group would be a safer way to get close to the human camp. They did however require that one of the meerkat go with us, just in case something happened she would be the fastest to get back here for help. Now with our team assembled we were off. I did get that ride from Cliff, but sleeping on the back of a trotting lion isn’t an easy thing, so I just tried to close my eyes and relax. Well I ended up relaxing too much. I fell off of Cliff’s back, and when I hit the ground I managed to find the only place on the trail with a rock on it. I bonked my melon pretty hard, and out I went. The strange part of this is that I don’t remember hitting the ground. The next thing I know I’m waking up, and nobody is around. With everyone that was with us I would have thought that someone would have seen me fall. After sitting up, and getting my bearings I realized that I had no idea where I was. This looked nothing like the trail we were on.
Now as I check my head to make sure it’s not too bad, and I sit here looking around. I try to see if there is anything at all that looks remotely familiar. Nothing looks right. The trees look more like the ones that I noticed the day that I was with Monty, and we were watching two of the humans swimming near the waterfall. There are a couple differences though. I don’t see any of the big trees with all the vines on them, and I don’t smell the water from the waterfall. Well since I don’t know where I am sitting here. I might as well start out by climbing a tree to see if I can tell where I am. After a long climb I got to the top, and lo and behold.....I have no clue where I am. :(
now the sun is setting, and I might as well stay up here for the night.
Day 11
I’m up with the sun today, and I’m set to try and find my way home.
After getting down from the tree I start to notice that there are no other animals around. I don’t hear anything. So off I go, and I’ve decided to head the direction of the ocean I could see in the one direction. I figured that going into the jungle really doesn’t help. I could get spun around, and just do circles forever. Getting to the ocean will at least let me follow it around till I see something that I recognize. As I head of in the general direction of the ocean I decide to use this time to try and figure out what happened to me, and also a few other questions that have been bothering me lately. First I start by thinking about the thing that the humans have been building on the beach. What could they need all that bamboo for? Next I want to try and figure out what the humans would want from Cliff and Devine. Are they special, do they have something wrong with them, and are the humans really doing things to animals on the island like Cliff told us about? Then lastly....WTF!!!!!! As I come around a bend in the small trail I’m following I come across a human hanging upside down from a tree. At first he looks like he’s dead, but then another human comes out of the jungle and cuts him down. She looks like she’s mad at him for being in her tree. I don’t think he wanted to be there, but accidents happen. She didn’t seem to want to listen to him. She tied him up, and dragged him away. I thought about following them, but I have enough things to worry about myself. I don’t need to waste time watching humans.
So off I go...Why do I have this strong curiosity about humans? I decide that I’m not getting home by sticking around, and when I think about Fergie being alone I pick up my pace. When the sun reaches the middle of the sky I decide it’s time for lunch, and a break. I find a small stream, and jump in to refresh myself. After I get a bite to eat it’s off on the trail I go. Now I know that I might be heading in the right direction when my brain finally kicks in and reminds me that I had seen that human before. I remember that I’ve seen the one that was hanging in the tree. He was out in the Jungle a day or two ago. He was out there with two other humans. He seemed to be really mad at the one guy. He had the one guy tied up to a bamboo tree. After a little while he was asked to leave by the really pretty girl. She ended up kissing him. Then when she stood up and left she looked mad. I didn’t understand that. I know whenever I kiss Fergie I’m happy afterwards. Then the one guy came back and when he let the one go they started fighting. After a short time rolling around it looked like the one guy had really hurt the other. I left then, because I’m not one to sit and watch humans fighting. I just don’t get why they always seem to be looking to fight each other. By the time I realize the sun is going down I have no more answers to my questions than I had before, but I figure I’ve gone over half the way to the beach. So after I find a quick dinner I climb up to the top of a Nanner tree to see where I am, and grab some sleep.
This is Travis signing off, and Fergie I’m coming home soon.
Wowsers!!!! I slept very good last night. I may have to look into changing trees when I get back. I slept in that nanner tree last night, and it was one of the best sleeps I ‘ve had in a long time. As I got up and going today I got a good look from the top of the tree. I can see where the trail opens up to the ocean. So I did make really good time yesterday, and I figure if I can keep up the same pace today I should be able to get back home by dinner time.
Off on the trail I went. After about an hour I realized that something didn’t seem right. I continued towards the beach, but my mind was not at ease. Then I realized what was wrong. I was being followed. I couldn’t see who it was, but every now and then I would hear movement to my right. When I would stop and look for a sign of who it was I could see nothing. Now I’m a bit nervous, so I pick up my pace. Hoping to make it to the beach as soon as possible.
Then just as I can see the sand off in the distance I hear that noise again, but this time when I stop it doesn’t stop. In fact it starts to get louder, and I can tell that whatever it is will soon be right on top of me. Being a little guy usually has some advantages, but not in this instance. I couldn’t find anywhere to hide so it was all about getting to hopping. I was going as fast as I could, and soon I knew I had no chance of escape. I just stopped in the middle of the trail , and decided to face off with whatever was chasing me. Now the sounds were getting closer, and I could feel my knees shaking, my eyes got wide, and I almost fainted. Then it happened... I ducked my head as I started to see something coming at me, and then -----VOOM— I feel something go flying past my head. As I look up I catch just a glimpse of a brown blur in front of me before I have to jump out of the way. This time I see what it is, and it’s a black panther. What in the world is that doing here? I have only seen one of them during my lifetime, and that was when my father had taken my brother and myself to that old ship. My father told us that he only brought us there to warn us of the dangers around there, and to make sure that we knew about some of the other animals on the island that are not usually around where we lived.
Well after coming to my senses I start off down the trail after the brown blur and the panther. As I get to the beach I’m greeted by a site that I don’t think I’ll ever forget. There on the beach I find a large group of animals surrounding the panther. The group I notice consists of Monty, Bapu, (who must have been the blur due to the fact that he was now lying on his side panting near the rear of the group) Patty, and a few of Monty’s monkey friends. But the biggest surprise of this is in the front of the group, and facing off with the panther. It’s a female lion. I’m guessing it’s maybe Cliff’s mate, but I don’t really know. As I make it to the group I get over to where Monty is standing ready for battle. He’s got a big stick in one hand, and some poo in the other (he is a monkey after all). I ask him what’s up? When he sees me he drops his stick on the ground, and grabs me and puts me in a big ol’ hug. Too bad he dropped the stick......I really wish it had been his other hand that had dropped it’s contents. :(
So after I manage to get myself mostly cleaned off, and I get the chance. I ask Monty what’s going on? He informs me while picking his stick back up that a group had gone out in search of me after they noticed that I was no longer with the group. I was then told how they had gotten to the area near the old ship, and when they realized that I wasn’t there they headed here to the beach. But due to this over eager Panther they had to find a way to get away from him while getting the rest of the group to safety. Bapu had volunteered to get the panther to follow him to let the rest get to the beach. Under the idea that they all would be ready to fight when he got there. So that’s where we are at now.
I decide not to try to get to far into the story till after this situation is resolved. I head up to the front to get a look at the panther, and also to see if I know the lion. Well I don’t know either of them, and they don’t look like they are going to let this end peaceful. But just as the lion leaps towards the panther, and gets a hold of the panther Cliff comes flying out of the jungle. He’s roaring and looking like he’s ready to kill someone. Cliff proceeds to jump into the fray. As the three of them are fighting it becomes hard to see who’s getting the better of the situation. You’d figure that the lion’s should be taking care of the panther by now. However that wasn’t even close to the case. All of a sudden the panther gets out of the fight, and runs full bore into the jungle. Looking like he’s had enough of the lions for a long time. As I start thinking this should be all over now I find that it’s not. I look over and see Cliff and the female circling each other. I can’t really make out what they are saying to each other, but I catch one thing. Cliff saying "how dare you show yourself here". Now I originally thought that this new lion was going to be Cliff’s mate, but it’s obviously not. As they attack each other at the same time I see Monty swing his stick wildly in the direction of the lioness. *THWACK* he gets a shot onto the lioness, and as she turns to go after this new threat Cliff takes advantage of this. Cliff jumps on her back, starts ripping into her with his claws, and then it happens.....Cliff gets his jaws around her neck. After a second or two I hear a disgusting *snap* and I see the life fall from her eyes. Once Cliff realizes that it’s over he gets to his feet, and after a quick look at our group he starts off down the beach alone. I see as he makes the turn towards home that his eyes have tears in them.
After a few minutes of quite chit chat, and wondering looks between all of us we start heading for home. I ask Monty for a ride home. Which he agrees to readily. He has always been my most reliable friend, and I truly treasure him.
Well the rest of the day was pretty un-eventful. I got home, kissed Fergie, and found a nice branch in Monty’s nanner tree to sleep in tonight.
I have decided to move to a nanner tree today. I have slept so well in them lately, and even Fergie agreed that it’s a better place to sleep. So after a bit of breakfast I’m going to spend the day finding a tree that’s not occupied, and claim it for Fergie and myself.
After all the commotion the last couple days I’m so glad to be home. Monty stopped by this morning already, and was telling me that he’s not sure about what to think about Cliff. He told me that Cliff has been lying in his little place at the bottom of the hill since we got back, and nobody has seen him move. He will not talk to anyone when they go over there, and he hasn’t eaten at all. Now this does worry me a bit, but I’m still not sold on the fact that we can trust him. Monty seems to have given Cliff the OK, but I’m not so sure. Monty made a good point when he said that he saved Bapu and the rest of the group yesterday. I still think that with or without us that he would have done that. It seemed that there was something bigger involved between him and the lioness than just protecting us. His protection would have been understandable with the Panther, but not one of his own.
So know I’ve been asked by some of our group to go try talking to Cliff. Why me? I mean I’m just a frog. Wouldn’t it make more sense if Patty or even Monty and pals went to get the scoop from him? But I guess from what Monty told me the rest of the group respects me for being level headed when it comes to things like this. So off I go to try to talk with Cliff.
When I get there I notice that Cliff indeed seems to not have moved in a long time. At first it even looks like he could be dead. Until I see his chest rise and fall I start to think that he may have been wounded in the fight yesterday. When I get up close to him he just turns his head away from me so he doesn’t have to look at me. I decide not to worry about that, and sit down to just try to talk to him. After asking him what’s wrong and getting no answer I decide to try to wait him out. After an hour or so of complete silence he finally breaks, and asks what I really want, and why we all want to know what’s wrong with him. I smile a bit when he has his head turned away from me because I know now that I’ve got a chance to find out what’s wrong, and maybe clear up my uneasy feelings about him. Just before I start to try and get this info I see Monty off in the bushes. I love him for his protective nature when it comes to all of us, but this time I need him to not be here. I wave him off, and after a second time he realizes that I’m serious and He takes off. I wait till I hear him off in the distance chittering away with his brother. Cliff asks why I brought Monty with, and I tell him that I didn’t, and that I sent him away. He thanks me for trusting him, and stands up to stretch. I ask him if he’s interested in heading to the caves for a cool drink. He agreed that it sounded good, and I hopped up on his back for the journey. He wasn’t in a hurry, and I decided to take this as my chance to chat him up.
When I start of asking why he was so upset he changes the subject to the humans on the beach. He tells me that the other day they never made it to the beach like was originally planned. He told me how after they noticed that I was missing everyone put all there efforts into looking for me. He admitted that he didn’t want to go looking for me, and that he argued about continuing to the beach. It was only after Monty and Patty talked to him that he consented to go with the search party. I was a bit shocked by his openness, but it was also refreshing. I had expected him to beat around the bush, and not tell me anything of value. I had even thought that he might try to get rid of me on the trip to the caves. I was instead surprised by the fact that after opening up with this info he continued to talk about himself, and his life from before coming to our side of the island. (At least the parts he could remember) He talked about how he can’t remember anything back farther than maybe a year or two. But he knows from other lions that he has been around over on that side of the island that his size told them all that he was at least 4-5 years old. He went in to detail about some of the things he can remember from being held by the humans. He doesn’t seem to have any clear memories of that time, and he said that his memory of those things has just recently started to come back. Even though it’s only coming in little pieces he’s excited that he seems to get a bit almost ever day since coming over here.
At this point we arrived at the caves, and we stopped our conversation to get a good cool drink. And while he was doing that I checked in with Nathan and Terry. I asked them to take a little walk/fly, and to make sure that anyone else in the caves did the same till close to dark. I told them that I was making progress with Cliff, and that I wanted to keep it just us two. He seemed to open up more when nobody else was around. So off they went and Cliff and I just enjoyed the water, and a bit of silence.
Well After a nice swim for me, and a nap for us both, and a bit to eat we sat down to finish our talk. I was about to ask Cliff a question about the humans from the other side of the island, but before I could he just started off by asking me why I trusted him enough to be in the caves alone with him. I replied that I didn't really know, but that if it meant getting answers about the humans that messed with him, and maybe me it was worth the risk. Cliff didn't respond to that right away, and when he did it wasn't anything I expected. He told me that he had hoped that I would have insisted that Monty or even better Bapu come with me. I asked him why, and before he even answered I knew.....It was all a ploy. He had no intentions of talking to me, and when he got up and started pacing around the cave I became fully aware of what Cliff really was. He is a cold and calculating killer. He just continued pacing for a bit, and then when I tried to hop over to the cave entrance he blocked my path. He told me to go sit back down because this was going to take a little while. As I looked at him I knew I had no choice, and I did just that. After he checked the entrance to the cave once more he sat down just off to the side of the entrance, and started to "tell me a story". He told me how the lioness that he killed was indeed his mate. Then he also told me that the panther was a friend of his from the other side of the island, and it was all part of the plan. They and some of their friends had heard that there were some new humans over here, and that a couple of the animals that had been over on the other side of the island had found a place to live over here. So they all had gotten together to decide what to do. The group had voted, and had decided to come over here to see what was up, and if possible bring some of the animals from here back with him. But the one problem they had was his mate. She argued that there was no reason to come to this side of the island, and that there was more than enough food for them where they lived. So late one night in a secret gathering of the animals that wanted to come over here it was decided that Cliff would go. It was also decided that after a few days of him being gone that they would find a way to get Devine to go over there also. They figured the only way she would was if Cliff was in trouble. So after realizing that they decided to have Peter (cliff told me the panthers name) follow him, and after a day or so he'd head back saying that the humans had caught Cliff. Peter told them all that he had barely made it back himself, and after another couple days Devine and Peter headed off to save Cliff. So when Cliff had "dropped me on accident" it was part of the plan. When I had fallen off him Cliff had known that Peter and Devine were nearby, and he let them get me. They then took me back to the center of the island and left me there. Knowing that I would find my way back. This also made it easy for Cliff to lead my friends towards the center of the island. The initial plan was for them to get into the jungle so that Peter and Devine could attack my friends. What they didn't expect was that I would make it to the beach as fast as I did, and that Devine would realize what was going on. She figured it out when she played at sleeping the night before the fight. While lying under a tree she watched Cliff come close enough to them to talk with Peter. When she confronted Peter about this he just told her she was dreaming. Knowing that wasn't true she decided to turn the tables on them. Cliff figures that she must have tried to warn us while Cliff was out scouting near the beach. When she headed towards the group on the beach is when Peter attacked her. He couldn't let her tell us what was going on. That's why when I arrived Peter and Devine were squaring off. Then when he came back from "scouting" Cliff heard the commotion, and came thundering into the fray. Fully expecting us to believe he was saving us from the panther first, and then when Peter ran off he knew that he had to kill her. Otherwise she would tell us. That's why he attacked her so quickly and fiercely. Throughout this story I sat in an amazed stupor. I didn't know what to think abut all of this. I ventured one question to him while he was still talkative, and that was, "how could you kill your mate?" He dipped his head a bit, and after a minute he looked up at me with a look that struck me cold. Cliff then said, "I did love her you know, but it was for better for the whole group." He continued to tell me that his life on the other side of the island was one where the good of the group has always been bigger than one individual. As I was about to ask him another question I heard something rustle in the bushes outside the cave. Thinking it was one of my friends coming for a drink, or to look for me I just bowed my head and prayed it wasn't. Well it wasn't anyone looking for me. In fact it was Peter, and when he entered the cave he gave a grin to Cliff who in turn smiled. Peter didn't say anything at all, and he just went over to the pool and got a drink. After that he walked back out of the cave and into the jungle. It was then I knew that things were very bad. Cliff was holding me in the cave knowing that some of my friends would know I was there. Then when they came to find me Cliff and Peter could pin them in the caves, and do whatever it was they were going to do. As Cliff noticed the look on my face he gave a deep chuckle, and told me to find a nice place to lay my head, because it was going to be awhile before I left the caves if ever. So I found a little corner near the pool, and lay down. I spent a few minutes thinking to myself and trying to figure out where everything went so wrong. As I started to fall asleep I prayed that everyone I cared about was safe, and that they were smart enough not to come looking for me without something to help against this treacherous lion, and his sidekick. This is a very confused Travis signing out.
When I woke up today I was surprised to see that I was alone. I sat for a minute or two thinking to myself. Was it all a dream? Did Cliff really kill his mate, and align himself with the panther? I really didn’t know what to think about those questions at first. However as I decided I should leaves the caves, and head home I realized the truth. Even before Cliff walked in the cave I knew it wasn’t a dream, and it was all true. I was in the caves, and if I was here then it meant that it all had happened and that at some point Cliff would be coming back. So I decided when I heard him coming back in that I should try something to get out of this mess. I started off by finding a small hole in the wall near the entrance to the cave. I crawled in it hoping that he’d walk right by, and I could get out before he knew I was gone. As Cliff headed over near the pool I headed for freedom, but just as I thought I was out, and could breath easy. Crap!!!! How could I....
Yes indeed I forgot that Peter was outside this side of the cave. When he brought me back in Cliff was laughing. He said he thought it was funny that I couldn’t remember that he was out there. I told him to try being held captive, and think straight at the same time. It’s a bit overwhelming knowing that at any moment your life can be over because you’re 100 times smaller than the one who’s holding you. Cliff’s smile actually seemed to grow a I said the last part. Now both Cliff and Peter were in the cave laying near the pool. I couldn’t hear what they were saying now since I was being held in a small nook in the wall right behind the small waterfall. Peter had come up with the idea. Telling Cliff that this way I had to go into the water to escape, and as long as one or both of them was watching the water I couldn’t escape. Now it was my turn to laugh. Surprising how it seems that most times the larger the animal is the dumber the get. It’s not always the case, but with these two it’s most deffinately true. They both forgot the one essential part of being a tree frog....Climbing.:) At this point I decided to wait a bit before I made good my escape. Since I just got caught earlier I’d guess that they I’ll be watching me a bit closer. While I waited I just hoped that none of my friends tried anything stupid. With these two here I don’t think any one individual could do anything. Even Patty would have trouble fighting off both of them. So I decided to lie down, and nap. I was going to need my strength for getting out of here, and back home.
Man I must have been tired, because when I woke up it was dark. How I could sleep that long I don’t know, but I can worry about that when I get out of here. What the???? Well that explains why it was dark. I didn’t sleep too long.... Cliff and Peter put a small piece of wood in front of the hole. Well now...This sure puts a damper on things. I have to give Cliff credit. I never thought that they would do this, and I’m thinking that indeed my situation is a bit more dire than I thought a few hours ago. I’ll have to sleep on this, and hope that some clear plan comes to me.
Well Travis is still missing so I’m taking over for him, and also for Bapu. He did good, but he’s busy so I told him I’d fill in for Travis today.
Today we set in motion our plan to rescue Travis. Originally we had planned to go in at night, and try to get in and out while Cliff and Jasper were asleep. Unfortunately that plan was squashed when Nathan went in looking to see if he could figure out where Travis was. He did figure out that he was being held in a hole in the wall right next to the waterfall. He also found out something worse than that. Nathan told us of the fact that Cliff and Jasper were both in the cave now, and they were taking turns sleeping so we couldn’t get the jump on them. So now we decided to wait and try to take them by surprise when one of them came out to go to the bathroom. We figured that even though they were despicable animals for what they were doing they wouldn’t be dirty enough to go to the bathroom in the caves. First we placed Bapu, Patty, and a small group of other random animals at one entrance. Then Myself, and my troop of armed monkeys hid near the other entryway. Now it was time to be patient and wait. I could see that Patty was really uncomfortable waiting for them to make the first move. With her being a polar bear, and having a size advantage she wasn’t afraid of either one of the big cats. However to her credit she understood the reason for caution, and that we had to try to get the advantage on one of them first. Then we could attack in force even if both Cliff and Jasper were involved. The way we figured it was that when one of them came out we could get a jump on him, and then by the time the other one realized what was going on we would have an advantage on them.
Lucky for us that we didn’t have to wait long. About an hour into our wait Jasper peeked his head out. I guess they were expecting something after all, but it didn’t matter. He only paused a second before heading out into the bushes. Our luck continued to shine on us this night when not only did he come out to go to the bathroom. Jasper was dumb enough to not wake Cliff when he did so. He was the one on watch, and now also the cat being attacked by 15 pi$$ed off monkey’s. My troop and I went to work on him as soon as he reached the bushes. At the very moment that we jumped Jasper, Terry whistled and chirped to signal that we had attacked one of them. We later found out that Terry had wasted his breath, and that as Jasper had got up to leave the cave Nathan (who they had spying from a dark corner near the cave entrance) Ran back and notified them of the situation. So instead of waiting for the signal, and hoping that Cliff didn’t wake up first they attacked at the same moment as we jumped Jasper. Now with both of them completely caught unaware we had the upper hand, and we capitalized on it. Jasper was knocked out cold before I could even get a swing in. I think that George the gorilla got him good with his stick...Well more like his log, but regardless it was lights out for him. Now after making sure Jasper was restrained properly, and leaving George along with 5 monkey’s we headed into the cave. As I entered into the cave I noticed that Cliff was not restrained or incapacitated in any way. He was in fact pacing around in the middle of the cave. Looking like he was only waiting to make up his mind who he wanted to hurt first. Patty was trying to draw his attention to her, but he was smart enough to know that if he turned his back he could be done. As
I got nearer to the group I actually noticed that a couple of the smaller animals from their group were down. I asked Nathan what happened, and he explained that they did indeed get the drop on Cliff, but that in their desire to get to him before Terry’s warning woke him up some of the smaller animals being quicker had been the first to attack. By the time Bapu, and Patty had gotten in to help 2 were already down. That’s when I noticed that I didn’t see Bapu in the circle surrounding Cliff, and as I looked over to see if Cliff was still pacing I noticed the reason he was pacing where he was. Bapu!!!!!!! Cliff had him in a corner behind him, and also Bapu looked to be in very bad shape. As I rushed to go after Cliff I was grabbed by a couple of the animals, and I also heard Cliff laughing. I stopped in my tracks as I watched him lean over Bapu’s body , and lick one of the wounds on his side. Cliff looked back up at me with a grin, and Bapu’s blood on his chin. As I felt my furry start to rise I realized that must have been the reason that Patty hadn’t just outright attacked him yet. Again I was wrong. Because as I looked over at her to how she was doing I noticed her talking to someone on her other shoulder. After a few seconds I was shocked to realize that in my haste to dispatch with Cliff I had forgotten why we came in here in the first place. TRAVIS!!!:)
This Concludes my entry into Travis’s journal. Travis will continue the story as only he can.
As I was hanging out in my little hole in the wall I was trying to think how I would get out of here. I thought maybe I could try to convince Cliff that I wasnt worth what he thought. Then I realized that with all the trouble he had gone through proved that he wouldnt fall for that. I decided I would try to find a way to dig a small hole near the one edge of the entrance to the hole that I might be able to squeeze out of. So after Cliff allowed me a quick swim to get me back to my froggy self, and a bite to eat he had me get back in there. As I realized that the waterfall near the hole would hide my work I started digging. It was about this time that I heard some commotion outside the hole. I had gotten the hole just big enough by then to take a look out of the hole. What I saw then was incredible. My eyes gazed upon a group of animals that would make no sense in any other situation. There were Small ferrets and geckos lined up beside Bapu, Patty, and even Walter the wolf. They had surrounded Cliff and he was pacing with an anger that showed his surprise, and also his hatred for these animals. When Cliff made an attempt to leave the group made sure this didnt happen. I personally wished they would just let him go so that I could get out of the hole, and let us just be done with it. At the same time I figured that they had no intention of letting him run free on our side of the island if at all. Cliff would not be harming anymore of the animals ever if this group had anything to say about it. So when I noticed Cliff getting ready to attack I started yelling to anyone to let me out. It just so happened that at that same moment Nathan was pulling the stone in front of my hole free along with a gecko and a small lemur I didnt know. I thanked them for the help, and I was heading over to the side of the group where Bapu and Patty were when Cliff tried to make his escape. At that sign of movement Bapu rushed in and attacked Cliff. I tried to scream for him to not do it, but he couldnt hear me over his anger, and the roar from Cliff in his ears. This ended up being a very short-lived move on both parts. Because just as Bapu went in after Cliff he realized his mistake as Cliff had lured him into a trap. Just as Bapu tried to stop his forward progress towards him Cliff sidestepped him, and attacked him from behind. With two swift and vicious strikes from his powerful claws Bapu was down, and not moving. Patty started to run in to help, but by then Cliff had turned around ready for anyone who thought to try and attack him. I arrived at that moment and jumped up on Pattys shoulder. I calmed her a bit, and reminded her that it could cost us all more if we didnt do this just right. She settled down a bit, and I started to try and figure out how to get this to end as quickly as possible, and without any more innocent animals getting hurt. I had just settled onto Pattys shoulder when I here a commotion coming from the far side of the cave near the entrance. As I look I see Monty running into the cave, and swinging his stick wildly in the air. Monty was stopped just before he got close enough to take a swing at Cliff. At this point he also noticed me on Pattys shoulder. He ran over to where Patty and I were, and as he did this he sent Nathan out to see if things were still under control outside. When Monty came over to me it was good to see him smile for just a second before he looked over at Cliff again. Montys smile immediately turned into a scowl again, and he looked to me wondering what to do next. I first asked him what had happened to Jasper, and he told me the short version of how they took him down. After a couple minutes of Cliff pacing and snarling at us, and a few growls out of Patty I decided we still needed more firepower to deal with this situation. I had Monty relay a message to get George to come in as soon as possible. Even if it meant having all the monkeys that were out there (excluding Monty) swinging their sticks at him, and knocking him out every time he started to come to. After a couple minutes I see the big gorilla.well big is an understatement. I would say hes more on the gargantuan side of things. As George came into the cave with his tree branch in tow Cliff seemed to have trouble evaluating this new threat to his plans. After seeing his reaction to George I realized that we might finally have the upper hand over Cliff. Then as if to reassure my thoughts on this I noticed Bapu stirring behind Cliff. As he lifted his head I motioned for him to stay still. Bapu winked to let me know he understood, and at this point I whispered into Monty and Pattys ears to let them know to pass the word that we would be attacking soon. I then jumped up onto Georges shoulder and told him what I needed of him. At first he seemed a bit thrown off by this, but then seemed to understand why. Once I was sure that word of the plan had reached everyone inside and outside the caves I gave the signal. Cliff stiffened as he saw me start hopping up and down and start shouting, but just when the attack that he thought was coming a loud roar came from outside the cave. Cliff then softened a bit, and was starting to grin again. George started to head for the cave entrance, and when he did Cliff to this as his chance. He leaped into the air and headed directly towards George as he landed. As soon as Cliff made his move all the rest of the animals made theirs. Cliff was caught completely off guard as George abruptly spun around swinging his log in a wide arc that was heading directly for Cliffs head. Cliff managed to avoid the swing, but as he did he barreled directly into the pool. At this point Patty, Bapu, Monty, Walter, and the rest of the available monkey crew attacked him. Between the ravaging bites and claws of Patty and Walter, and the wild powerful swings from George and Monty Cliff didnt stand a chance. It was only after Bapu had gotten to his feet and limped over that they stopped the assault on the evil lion. As bapu got there he could only say one thing. why.. Now that wasnt quite what I had expected from Bapu. Especially since Cliff had done such serious damage to him. Thats also when George ran out to get Jasper. When he returned with the panther being dragged behind him George just let him lie in the middle of the cave, and then Bapu told the monkeys to release him. ??????????? WTF!!! I had to look at Bapu like everyone else did. He then explained that he wanted Jasper to see what had become of Cliff. Now I understood what he was trying to get at. Bapu had said why because he didnt know how one animal could do something like what Cliff had done to another animal without being provoked. Now he wanted to show Jasper what the consequences of these actions had been. Once I realized what he was doing I also asked for them to release Jasper. As the monkeys reluctantly untied him you could see everyone tense. As Jasper stood up he lowered his head to show he was not going to try anything. Then Bapu went over to him, and told him to look into the pool. At first Jasper refused, but after a poke or two from Montys stick he slowly walked over to the pool. The look in Jaspers eyes the moment he looked at Cliff told us all we needed to know. He turned to look at the whole group with tears in his eyes. As he started to speak Bapu cut him off, and said you are free to go, but if you or any of your twisted brethren from over on the other side of the island ever come over here looking to hurt anyone on our side again hell be the first one to be dealt with. Jasper nodded his head in understanding, and slowly started to leave the cave. Terry offered to follow him as far as the dark place in the middle of the island. I thanked him, and told him to only follow as long as felt was needed. So Terry went off to follow Jasper, and most of the other animals also decided it was time to head home. Thankfully my closest friends agreed to stay here with me to help take care of getting Cliff out of the pool, and to get rid of his body in the morning. I only wish there had been another way we could have dealt with Cliff, and also another place. Now with the blood in the pool I couldnt even take a swim. L As I fell asleep I could only think of how nice it will be to see Fergie when I get home in the morning.
This is Travis signing off.

Well Today I slept in for the first time in ages. I might still be asleep if it wasnt for Fergie. She came over right around mid-day to see me, and to ask me to spend the day with her. Of course I was willing to wake up when I heard her voice. She thought there was something wrong with me when I first woke up because all I did was stare at her. After letting myself take in her beauty for a minute or so I asked her what she had planned on doing. Fergie told me that it didnt really matter as long as it was just the two of us, and that we got to spend the whole day relaxing. I agreed that I needed a break from everyone around here, and asked her what she thought about going to the beach. She said that it sounded great, but only if we could find a spot a little bit more out of the way so we wouldnt have to deal with running into any of our friends. So after I got something small to eat we headed off to a small, secluded spot on the beach that would allow us to be alone, and just enjoy the day. When we first tried to leave Monty asked if I had talked to Bapu yet today? I told him I hadnt, but that it could wait till later when I got back. He said Bapu hadnt left the caves yet. At first I thought about changing my plans, but after thinking about it I just asked Monty why I had to be the one to go. He looked at me then at Fergie, and then it hit him. He decided that he could head over to check on him, and if he could he would get Bapu to head home. So with that out of the way Fergie and I started our trek to the beach. As we were on our way there all I could think about was why Bapu hadnt left the caves. Was he that injured that he couldnt? Had he just decided to stay in case Jasper tried coming back? After a few minutes of silence Fergie realized something was wrong. She asked me what I was thinking about, and if I wanted to talk about it? I told her I was worried about Bapu, and I told her about what I had been thinking about him. She reassured me that he would be OK, and that Monty could handle it. I agreed and let it fall from my mind. I had been through enough the last week or so that I needed to just shut my mind down, and enjoy some down time. Being with her was a huge help in keeping my mind away from any of the other animals and their problems. Now that we were at the beach all of my cares totally slipped away. We decided the first thing to do was to go for a quick swim in one of the small tidal pools. When we were in the pool Fergie got very playful, and she started to kiss me. I was a little surprised by this, but only because she usually waited for me to start the kissing. I wasnt about to argue though, and after a bit more playing around we decided to head back to the small palm tree near the edge of the jungle to take a little nap. I was awakened by the sounds of thunder, and the smell of lightning in the air. As I looked around I noticed that Fergie was no longer by my side, and for that matter I couldnt see her anywhere. My first instinct was to go out to look for her, but as I thought about it I decided to stay put. She may just be out finding something to eat, or going to the bathroom. Now Im sitting on the branch looking out at the ocean trying to figure out where she had gone. At the moment of the next lighting flash and thunder strike Fergie jumped up onto the branch almost making me fall out of the tree. After she stopped laughing at me she told me that she had indeed gone to get something to eat, and that when she was looking she had found a nice little area that the rain and wind couldnt get into. I agreed that that would be more comfortable, and she took the lead in our short walk to this new place. WOW!!! Thats all I could say when at last we arrived at this new place. It was just a small hole in a large rock, but it was dry and it did keep the rain out. As we got farther in I noticed that there seemed to be someone already using this place because there was a bed area, and a small store of food in there. I told Fergie that we needed to leave the new place because I wasnt about to use someone elses home. Fergie started to laugh at me again when she heard this. I couldnt help but look at her with a slight bit of curiosity now as she tried to talk to me through her laughter. When she finally regained control of herself she told me not to worry. She looked at me and understood that I was still not getting why we shouldnt worry. At that moment she grabbed me in a big hug, and told me this was our new home. Now Im a big fan of hugs from her, but at this statement I started to pull away. I asked Fergie what she meant? Thats when she sat me down and explained that this was where she had lived before we had met. She then told me that after everything had happened lately she was going to show it to me and ask me to move here with her. Thinking that it was just to hard to be a couple where we were at now, and that it was also a safer place. I had to agree that being in the nanner tree had been getting a bit crowded lately, and this place sure was a lot more comfy feeling than a tree branch. So I told her Id think about it for a day or two, and then we could decide together if this was the place we really should call home. After this mind-boggling episode, and a little playful fun we decided to go back out to the beach. Since it had stopped raining and night was starting to approach we chose to stay in this new place (for me its new) for the night, and in the morning we would need to head back to the tree grove. I told her I was enjoying this day tremendously, but that I was still worried about Bapu. Fergie told me that she understood my need to check on my friend, and even told me that I should head back in the early morning. I asked her if she was coming back with me to the nanner grove. She just smiled and told me she needed to stay here for a few days. I agreed, and with that we sat back and watched what I now believe to be one of the prettiest sunsets Ive ever seen.
This is a very relaxed and happy Travis signing off.
After a nice quiet evening by ourselves Fergie and I decided to head back to the grove. I decided it best to get there early so I could catch up with everyone before they headed off to do whatever they had planned for the day. I was going to tell Monty first if only because of our friendship, and he might take it the best. Boy was I wrongHe was not very happy about it at all. He wasnt going to listen to me, but I told him I needed this because I wanted to have some calm back in my life. He told me that he understood, but after all that has happened to me lately he didnt think it was a wise move. Especially with Jasper on the loose he didnt want me to be without some protection. I reassured him that it would be fine, and after seeing the look in Fergies eyes I think he knew it was something I needed to do. So after he calmed down I asked him to follow me to my new pad after I talked with everyone I needed to talk with. He agreed that it would be nice to know where I was living. Before Monty and I went off to find Bapu, Patty, and the rest of the group he told me that something bad was up on the beach last night. I asked him what, but Monty said I needed to talk with Bapu about it because he had seen what happened and could explain it better. So off Monty went to gather the troops from around the area of the grove, and Fergie and I headed for the caves to see who might be there. When we get to the caves Im a bit surprised at whos there. Now Nathan and Terry.. They were no surprise, because they live there. Now JASPER..Thats a different story. I immediately tell Fergie to go get Monty and George, and off she goes. As I start to enter the cave I notice that it looks like Jasper is in fact helping Nathan clean out the pool near the waterfall. Now at first I get to thinking I should stay hidden until help arrives, but I change my mind when I hear them talking to each other. At this point I decide I need to know whats going on, and I hop on over to where they are. Nathan sees me first, and is all smiles from the get go, but terry however is just sitting high above the pool watching this all. I ask Nathan to come talk with me in private for a minute, and he runs right over. What in the sam hill is he doing in here? I ask Nathan as he gets close enough to hear me. Hes helping clean up. Nathan says. I shake my head and look at Terry who has just glided down from his perch. Terry looks at me, and shrugs his shoulders. Nathan then explains that about 2 hours ago Jasper came back to the caves, and sat down outside the cave near the main entrance. After about another hour Nathan decided to see what was up, and got just close enough to talk to Jasper. Thats when Jasper told him that he wanted to talk with either Monty or Travis, and that he also came back to help clean up the mess that Cliff created. So Terry and Nathan agreed to let him help and if anything seemed out of the ordinary that Terry would scoop up Nathan, and they would zoom out of there. However Terry told me that Jasper had been nothing but nice, and was doing a lot to help get the pool cleaned out. He even offered to try and find a way to clean the blood off of the floor. With this I decided Id go talk to him myself. When I remembered that Fergie was off going to get help I asked Terry to fly off and catch her. Since it didnt seem that we needed any help at this time. As I approached I noticed it looked like Jasper had been beaten up since the last time I saw him. Now I know he took some lump, but I didnt think they were all from the monkeys and George. When I got up close I watched as Jasper slowly lowered his head, and seemed to not know what to say to me. I asked him what he wanted to talk to me about, and also why he came back after being warned not to. At first he didnt say anything, but then he looked up at me and told me he had to. After he got as far as the middle of the island he was greeted by some of the other animals he thought were his friends but he was wrong. When he told them what had happened to Cliff and himself they came sown pretty hard on him. The group attacked him, and called him a failure. They told him he could either stay with them as their servant or he could leave. When he told them hed leave they gave him 1 minute to get out before they attacked him. So at that point he ran for all he was worth, and headed to a little hideout he knew of. When he got there he found that the others had ransacked his place, and left him nothing. When he woke up after a short nap he noticed he didnt feel quite right. He felt sort of woozy, and had to sit down for a bit until his head cleared. While he was sitting there he started to check out his new wounds from his latest scrape, and found something weird behind his one ear. Thats when he showed it to me. It was a small metal thing that seemed to be stuck to his ear. I dont know what it was, but Jasper said all of the other animals over on the other side had one also. Next Jasper went on to tell me how after clearing his head he began to think about all the stuff that had happened over here, and how he felt like he needed to make up for it anyway he could. Thats why he came back, and right away asked to see either Monty or myself. He knew that everyone over here trusted and respected us, and that we were the only ones to talk to him about his situation. I told Jasper that I didnt think it was a very smart thing for him to be here, and that he might want to leave. Thats when he told me that he had nowhere else to go, and that he was willing to do anything to prove that he wasnt the same as he was when he was here before. I told him Id take it into consideration, but before I made any decisions I would like to have a few others nearby when we continued of talk.
So thats when I left him to his cleaning, and headed back to the grove to find Monty. Ill let you know how it all ended up later on. This is Travis the tree frog signing off.

The first thing that happened as soon as I got back to the grove I was greeted by Bapu, Monty, and Patty, and all of them looked upset. I glanced over and noticed Fergie sitting off to the side looking like She had done something wrong. I immediately guessed what was going on. Fergie had gotten back here before Terry could stop her, and she had told them all about Jasper having come back to the caves. Luckily Terry arrived a few minutes before the group had taken off to go deal with Jasper, and they agreed to wait till I returned before doing anything. Now that I was back all of them were all chomping at the bit to go take care of him, and make sure that Jasper never returned again. At first Monty was willing to listen to me and hear what had gone on at the caves, but after I explained to him that Jasper was still there he just grabbed his stick and started walking. At this point Bapu needed no motivation to go, and Patty would never leave them to go alone. So off they went, and I had to hitch a ride from Terry for a short distance so I could catch up with them. Terry dropped me right on Pattys back on the move, and I continued to press the issue to her as we moved along the trail. When I finally got to tell her the part about the weird thing on Jaspers ear she stopped so suddenly I almost flew right off her. Patty asked everyone to stop, and then had me repeat the part about the clip on his ear again so everyone could hear it. At first Monty and Bapu just looked at her with a look of confusion in their eyes, but then it hit Bapu like a lead weight. All Bapu could do was sit down, and shake his head. Monty not understanding what was going on tried to get Bapu to get up so they all could get going. Then Bapu looked over at Patty, and she responded with a slight nod of her head, and at that point Bapu recited the tale of how Patty and her mate had gotten to the island. After hearing about the way the two bears were taken from their home on the ice Monty understood, and then Monty gave her a knowing nod of appreciation. So with all of this new information to process, and the daylight fading we all decided to head back to the grove for the evening. Once we got back to the grove nobody really seemed interested in talking about Jasper or Patty and her ordeal. I then took it upon myself to question Bapu about what had happened on the beach last night. Bapu went on to inform me that just after nightfall last evening he was out looking for something to eat (he always has a bedtime snack) when he found himself near the Humans, and the beach. At first he just ignored them like he usually does, but as he continued his search for a tasty morsel he was interrupted by lots of yelling from the humans. When he decided he wouldnt have a good meal until they shut up he chose to go look and see what all the commotion was about, and what he found was not what he had expected at all. After following the frantic yells of the humans. Bapu got to the tree line near the place wed all seen them tying the bamboo trees to one another and whatever it was they had built was now on fire!!!! Bapus first reaction was to go try to put it out, but realizing that a wild boar isnt going to be wanted as help from the humans he stayed put, and hid in the bushes to see what they were going to do about the fire. While hiding from the humans Bapu caught a glimpse of something out of the corner of his eye. It was the puppy Vincent, and the little human he was always with. They were running away from the fire, and when they stopped the little human pulled Vincent close to him, and they hid in some bushes only short distance from where Bapu was hiding. After a few tense moments wondering if the little human was going to send Vincent after him, and nothing happening Bapu relaxed and went back to watching the humans and the fire. Now at first there was only one of the humans there, but not long after he got there he ran off into the jungle holding his hands and heading to the caves that the humans had settled into not more than a week or two before. Right after the one left almost every human from the beach came running, and started trying to put out the fire. Once they were all there and trying to put it out Bapu watched as the little human and the puppy headed out to the group of humans, and started to try and help. After that Bapu said it was mostly all the same till daybreak. The humans fought the fire as best they could, but almost everything they had tied together was burned. So after finally getting something to eat, and watching the humans yell at one another for a short while he realized he hadnt slept yet. So off to bed he went, and thats all Bapu could tell me about that. By now everyone seemed to have settled in to each of thier own little spots in the grove, and a few were even falling asleep. After kissing Fergie goodnight I decided I would take a walk, and maybe try to talk to Patty about here knowledge of what Jasper might have been through. I also wanted to get her opinion on my moving to the new place. I found Patty cleaning herself in her usual spot near the big waterfall out in the jungle. She liked it there because she could cool off easier, and she felt safe there. When I first tried to get her to open up and tell me the story of Peter and herself she wasnt willing to talk about it. She even went as far as to take a swim in the water to avoid the subject. I decided It might work better to leave her be for the night, and try again in the morning. She offered me a nice little tree near the waterfall to sleep in, and I accepted.
With sleep overtaking me I decided that in the morning I needed to try and find out some more about Patty and Peter. Maybe shed at least tell me how she came to be on the island.
Yawn... Man I sleep so good in these trees near the waterfall. Im sure its because of the extra moisture in the air, but regardless its a nice thing. Ill have to make sure when Fergie and I move to the new place I talk her into a trip here at least once every other week. After a quick swim I decide its time to try and talk to Patty again. Seemingly out of the blue she appears out of the jungle. Smiling at me as she jumps into the water, and causing a huge wave of water to wash over me, and almost knocking the breath out of me. As I get my bearings I find her floating in the water with the smile still on her face. Then I see Patty wave me over to her, and so I swim out to her, and climb up on her belly as she floats around on her back. Immediately she starts telling me the story of how Peter and herself had gotten to the island, and how the humans had been watching them for a long time after they first come to the island. The first thing she explains is how they had placed them in cages when they first got here. Then after the humans had poked them both with a lot of really big needles, and watched them in the cages for few days after that. Once they were let out into the jungle Patty said that her and Peter didnt understand where they were, and that she had been really scared for the first couple nights. Peter had managed to find this waterfall, and they decided that as long as no other animals were living here that they would stay here as long as they needed to. For the first couple of weeks Patty and Peter were convinced that the humans would come back for them. They never did come back for them, but Peter always felt like there was someone watching them all the time. The next surprise came one night when they were lying down to go to sleep. Peter put his head on her shoulder , and when she turned to talk to him she finally noticed it. Peter had one of the tags that Jasper had mentioned. When she told Peter that he had this thing clipped to his ear he went nuts. Roaring, tearing at the trees, and clawing at the thing on his ear. When he started to bleed from trying to pull the clip off she had to tackle him to get him to stop. She told him to go swim to wash the blood off, and after that they both talked about what it could be. They never did figure out what it was for before the human killed him. After a few moments of silence she asked me if I was ready to go talk to Jasper to find out what the clips are all about. I told her that I would like that, but before we headed to the caves I needed to head back and talk to everyone else in the grove real quick. When I go there I noticed everyone seemed to be gone. Then I noticed Fergie up in my tree. She came down and told me that most of them went on a run to get more nanners. Only Bapu and his brother headed back to the beach to see what the humans were doing after the big fire. So as the sun started to set I hopped up onto Pattys back to ride to the caves. Once I got there I was surprised to see that Monty, George, and the monkey patrol had decided to drop in on Jasper in the caves. When I noticed them hanging out there I fully expected to see Jasper either tied up or worse. Instead I was greeted to howling laughter, and Jasper sitting next to Monty telling a story. (Sometimes Monty is just crazy) So I decided to hang out in the back with Patty till things calmed down, and then we could go talk to Jasper. Unfortunately Monty and Co. Were having such a good time with him that Patty and I didnt get to talk to Jasper until well after the sun had gone down. As tired as I was Patty had convinced me to have the talk with Jasper about the clips tonight. Jasper was more than willing to answer any questions we had. He informed us that Peter hadn't been to far off in thinking that someone had been watching them. Because the clip seemed to help the humans find them wherever they went. He explained to Patty and I that on one occasion he thought he had gotten far enough away from the humans ands their living places that he might be able to relax. When he woke up he had noticed that he felt like something wasnt quite right. When he stood up he fund that his front right leg was sore like after being poked by the humans shiny sticks. Then another time when Cliff and him were out hunting for food they felt like they were being followed. After a little while Cliff told Jasper to keep walking for a minute or two, and he would hide and see who it was. Cliff ended up being right. After about a minute or two Jasper had looped back around towards Cliff, and just before getting to the spot where they had parted he had heard a human screaming. After arriving at the source of the noise Jasper was horrified to see Cliff standing over a human body that was torn to shreds. Cliff said that the human had been following them, and when Cliff came out of the bushes the human had tried to shoot him with one of the small shiny sticks with feathers on them. Knowing full well that they make you sleepy Cliff attacked the human before he could shoot. Most of the stories that Jasper relayed the rest of the night only seemed to confirm that the humans on the far side of the island were doing something to the animals. We weren't sure what to think about the ones on this side though. So far the only conflicts between us and them had been when we had gone after them. Even Patty agreed that Peter had reacted hastily. He should have waited to see what they were doing. As the sun was starting to come up we were still talking. I finally told them I was going to try to get some sleep, and I went off to sleep while they continued to talk.
So it seems that we may have not understood Jasper fully. He's been manipulated by both the humans, and his fellow animals from the other side of the island. I'll discuss him staying in the caves with everyone else after I sleep.
This is Travis the tree frog signing off.

Now as I sit here thinking about all that has gone on in the last couple of weeks I have to think that this world as I know it has gotten my mind twirling and doing loops. From the very beginning when I first ran into the puppy named Vincent. To last night when after a long talk I have learned that there are not only humans on the other side of the island, but they seem to be using animals for something that’s not very nice. So I’ve decided that I need a break from all of this, and I have the perfect way to do that. I’m going to head back to the trees, grab Fergie, and head to our new home for some prolonged and well-deserved rest. She deserves to have a little extra attention from me after all that she’s put up with lately.
So now as I’m sitting around waiting for everyone else to wake up, I decide a swim is in order now that it’s clean from the blood that was flowing in it for a time after the incident in here. Just as I get in the water, I see Monty at the edge of the pool smiling at me. (How does he know just the right moment to show up?? It’s always at the same time that I want to be alone. It never ends!) I swim over and expect to have him start asking questions to find out what the conversation late last night was about. Instead he throws me for a loop when he tells me that he believes that Jasper is a good egg, and that he and his pals have offered to take him along on their next nanner hunt tomorrow. That’s when I just about when I find myself near the bottom of the pool when I hear this. Now I knew things seemed to go well between them all last night, but I didn’t think it went that well. It seems that during the laughter and stories last night they found out that they had a little more in common than they even thought. They naturally have a hatred for the humans regardless of what side of the island they come from, but they both also found that playing pranks isn’t just a hobby with them. It’s a way of life. Monty went on to tell me about a couple of the things that Jasper had done when he was over on the other side of the island, and then after Monty replayed a few of his "Stunts" to Jasper, and they became fast friends.
This made things a lot easier on one certain frog I’ll tell you. Now instead of pleading my case to him and his troop, I could just wait to see if anyone was heading back to the trees. (I’m feeling lazy today). Now as far as my days go, today was starting to shape up to be a great one.
Then as Monty decides to go get some fresh air I see Patty stir in the corner. I hop out of the pool, and wait to see her when she heads over for her morning libation. After giving her a few moments to clear her head, and slake her thirst. I decide it’s time to find out if she learned anything else new about Jasper that we didn’t know yet. That’s when I also start looking around for Jasper. After a second or two we both look at each other and it hits us. He’s gone!!!!! God dammit!! He duped us again, and now we don’t even know where he went this time. (So much for my good day huh?) Just then I hear a roaring laugh coming from outside the cave. It’s a laugh that even though you’ve only heard it a couple times it’s not one you forget. Just then I see Jasper and Monty walking in with some nanners, and laughing as loud as a stampede of wild boars. As they walk by Monty winks, and continue to laugh along with Jasper. (Ok so my day is not ruined after all) I shake my head at the site of these two, and go back to talking with Patty. Patty??? Um…where’d she go running off too now?? As I scan the cave, I find that she has gone and joined up with the "Chuckle Brothers" over near the cave entrance. OK..Ok…I get it. Jasper isn’t a bad guy, and he’s funny to boot. I yell out"Anyone in here going to be heading to the tree grove anytime soon?" I get no reply due to the laughter of the group, and I see that I’m off to the trees on my own.
You know what? I think this was for the better anyway. I haven’t had a nice walk all by myself in . . . well you know I think it’s been since well before that big wreck happened, and the humans ended up on the beach. Then as I am hopping along the trail I start to notice something is wrong. Nobody is talking or making noise. Now I know...I went on this walk by myself, but that’s not what I meant. What I noticed was that all of the animals who live around here were all silent. That’s when I decide it’s best to get off the trail for a little while. I couldn’t have timed that any better. Because just as I start hopping along my way in the underbrush, I hear something or someone coming down the trail. As I stop, I realize that I don’t’ actually so much as hear something coming, as much as I sense someone coming. So I stop and let my curiosity get the better of me. So I head over to the edge of the trail to see what it is.
They walk by me as silently as the wind, and their movements seem to be masked by a veil of silence. Four or five humans come by me in tattered, dirty, and ripped clothing on. After they are past me, I feel the chills that had made my blood feel like spring fresh water running through my veins start to subside. I have no better way to explain the way I felt when they came past, and I’m not sure I would want to. I slowly start to hop along in the underbrush again on my way to the tree grove to find Fergie, take her back to our new home, and not leave but to spend time warming my NOW chilled to the bone body in the warm sun on the beach.
