company... it meant he didn't have to be a lone survivor....there would be someone there to help with his wounded shoulder... and to find jin...
yes but Sawyer is the one who wants to be alone, he almost never wants to do anything with the other survivors. you say that he saved him to have company and to help find Jin, but isn't the act/thought of try to help someone else selfless?
I cried, "Oh, Lady Midnight, I fear that you grow old, the stars eat your body and the wind makes you cold." "If we cry now," she said, "it will just be ignored."

the act is selfless but the result never is... there is always some form of personal gain...wanted or unwanted....
I Sawyer. When that woman fell for him, or thought she did, he let her go because he knew he was no good for her. Bad influence. I think he really felt for her. His selfishness must be a defense mechanism from seeing his parents blown away. Hurt others before they hurt you. It was like that woman loved adventure more than him. I don't think he wanted to go through with that particular con. I hope we find out if he really gave that other man his cut of the money. I don't know if this was ever talked about; I don't tend to read any Skate or Jate usually because we don't know all there is to know about any of them really. There's a lot more than they are telling.
Sawyer didn't gain anything by getting Claire some pills for her headache. He ddn't gain anything by going back to try to help Sayid and his group. He didn't gain anything when he told Jack about meeting with his father in the bar before his father died.

I think Sawyer actually has low self-esteem and many insecurities so he over-compensates by being a machco smarty.I think he does some of the not nice things he does out of fear of rejection and getting hurt.I believe inside he is a good person with a conscience, and not a natural con-man at all. Plus he is BEAUTIFUL and brings out the "fixer" in me. (as well as other impulses).
