Kate has so much compassion. She's always the first one there when someone is hurt physically or emotionally. I'm starting a list of these moments.
1. Hurley was talking to Libby right before she died - Kate bawling. 2. Sat with Sun waiting for pregnancy test results. 3. Claire in labor - Kate helped her through. 4. Claire passes out - Kate is right there. 5. Jack trying to bring Charlie back to life - Kate bawling. 6. Sewed Jack's cut.
Side note: Has Kate ever had any interaction with Rose or Bernard?

interesting... i don't remember her at all with rose or bernard....maybe later... kate also helped protect claire and aaron from danielle... and claire from charlie...

Her manipulation wasn't her being "BAD" though. It was all natural instinct, and her way of trying to survive kicking in. For someone who's always on the run you'd have to think they would be looking for a saftey net any chance they could.
Now Season 3 could be a biggie for Kate. I have heard the rumblings that she will make a chioce in the SHIP dept. andI have to say that's ok, but it'll sort of take some of the edge out of the interaction between the 3 of them. It's such a great thing to see them no that they need one another, but then to watch Sawyer and Jack act like a young spike buck looking for his first peice of tail. I think outside of this we'll learn more of what was done to her mother to prompt her to kill him, and also what she was doing while on the run after that a bit more. I'm also wanting to know how that little plane got into that safety deposit box, and how she knew it was there. On the island I think she'll find that once back and seing that Sun is taking more of a role among them she'[ll chill out from having to be the one on all the missions.

kate will continue to be in the middle of things and do more in the exploration of the island.... she has developed strength since being on the island and will continue to do so... she may choose between the boys but it won't last.. of course she may choose neither and surprise everyone!!! more than anything, kate will survive... and these skills will be used to get jack away from the others, and to get locke to follow his path of destiny....
Snootch, you must have missed it when they showed that it was the Marshall who put the plane in the safe deposit box out of spite. He knew it was a reminder of the only person she ever loved. Well, other than her mother I guess.
