The fact that the fans rallied around this show is a cool thing. For those who don't know how they did that. I'll give a brief example of what they did.
First.....I'll say this. The last words uttered in the last epi of the season. That's what started it all.
The fans that wanted it back not only started an online petition that got sent to CBS, but those same fans as a worldwide group did the following.
The individually sent in bags and bags and bags of Peanuts to CBS headquarters. :) Inovative, and it got them to look into how much the fans wanted more of the show. Bravo to the fans.
It was not completely stated in the show as to where the quote came from.
Bastogne was under siege in the Battle of the Bulge. The German commander demanded surrender. The American General McAuliffe replied with the single word, "Nuts!" much to the consternation of the Germans who did not quite understand the meaning. At the time this was the equivalent of "Go to H*e*l*l".
The lightly armed and surrounded Americans held out until the overcast weather broke and supplies could be dropped as well as Patton's forces arriving.
Jake was told this story earlier and in the very last moment as the other town's overwhelming forces demand the surrender of Jericho he responds with: "Nuts!", the screen goes black (before the Sopranos did it) and we hear the ensuing fusillade of gunshots in the next stage of the Battle of Stanley's Farm.
That was a great way to end the season, and even better that we get to see how it all unfolds in Jericho. With the "Help" (NOT) on it's way. We know if they get there in time they will absolutely destroy the infiltrators, but what then? With this new faux govt. what's going to become of tiny little Jericho?
I cried, "Oh, Lady Midnight, I fear that you grow old, the stars eat your body and the wind makes you cold." "If we cry now," she said, "it will just be ignored."
"CBS second day on the TCA press tour brought a few hints on what to expect for the seven hours of Jericho ordered for midseason. Highlights are cloaked in invisotext:
* The Cheyenne governments army breaks up the fighting between Jericho and New Bern, but we can still look forward to some postwar scores being settled secretly.
* Cheyenne will work to bring water and power back to Jericho.
* Titus Welliver, who played Col. Robert Hoffman in the first season finale, was unavailable to reprise the role for the new season.
* Most of 2.1 takes place a good while after all the battle with new Bern.
* Stanley and Mimi get engaged.
* Rob Hawkins and Jake Green go on a mission to save the world.
* Sprague Grayden will be back as schoolteacher/fix-it girl Heather Lisinski.
* Gerald McRaney is not expected to appear in any flashbacks during the seven hours.
* The seven hours begin shooting Monday and should be wrapped by September.

Mike Ausiello of TV Guide adds this:
* Heather will return to Jericho find Jake and Emily coupled up.
* Heather will get another potential romantic interest, but there will still be some "pull" between Heather and Jake.
* Had the show received a bigger second-season order, a big part of the action would have been set in New York. As it is, the stories will again be largely confined to the title municipality.
