Is she an other? Is she Danielle's kid? We don't know much other than the fact that she likes Kate, and seems to all in all have a pleasant outlook towards the losties she's come in contact with. So...does she follow because there's no other choice or because that is her choice?
OK...after last night, and the comment from Ben "Did she ask about me?" before he went under for the sugery. This makes me wonder if he is the father? Or at the very least is he the one who raised her in the absence of Danielle? OR....OR..... was it both? He is the man that Danielle speaks about getting "Sick", but instead of being dead in the physical sense was it that him and the rest of her crew were dead to her in mind and spirit since they decided to live within the community? This could also explain why Dannielle didn't use a gun on him during the Fake capture that allowed him to be "Captured" by the losties. She wouldn't hurt the only man that has a connection to her daughter, and also that might have very well offered her a chance to have her back or at least see her.
I am wondering if Alex isn't working with them. The boyfriend warning definately fed Kates fears and if it was Alex over the interocm talking to Jack then she aided in the setup.

i like the idea of alex being daughter to danielle and ben... the reason why ben allows danielle to live... this could be his weakness... the way to get to him and get what you want... which makes her a very valuable pawn...
