Somehow my friend found out that if you put a towel under the xbox it works. That's so random! It's just a temporary fix until the coffin arrives though. Should be arriving about Tuesday.

My son's hoist it up on Legos or small plates so that air gets underneath, and with the 360 they use a fan blowing directly on it.

That's a good idea, we'll have to do that with the next one. I think it really is an overheating problem. They have some external fan attachements that some people use too.

You can also buy an Antec laptop cooler. We'll see about getting one of those.
Well I've never heard of anyone using the laptop cooler for the 360, but hmmmm. I know that I can say without a doubt. DO NOT but any of the cooling units for the back of the machine. They do more harm than good. And IR it's pretty much a proven thing that it's cooling issue. I myself am actually just going to buy a smaller "Clip Fan" to put on the stand the machine is on, and have it blowing on the rear of the machine when I'm playing.

Your supposed to wrap two towels around your 360 and leave it on for a few hours. The most basic issue is that the glue around the chipsets melts and rehardens in a position that does not allow the chips to function properly. Re-melting the glue works by loosening the chipset and allowing it to relocate to its original position. Unfortunately each time you do this it gets worse and eventually won't work as a trick anymore. This trick can make your 360 last for anywhere between 10 seconds and several months each time you do it depending on how badly the chipset is misplaced.
No amount of cooling techniques will really work over the long haul other than playing for less than an hour at a time. My 360 is placed directly in front of my air conditioner and I still had the issue. Only improved workmanship on the side of Microsoft can fix this.
