I cried, "Oh, Lady Midnight, I fear that you grow old, the stars eat your body and the wind makes you cold." "If we cry now," she said, "it will just be ignored."

Went to see "Children of Men" because I'm a Sci-Fi Freak and, maybe more importantly, a Clive Owen Crazed Fan.
I recently read "Oryx & Crake" by Margaret Atwood (caution: really creepy, underlying plot point). Both her book and "Children Of Men" paint very bleak pictures of Earth's future . . . with rebellions and uprisings and everyday people just trying to find food.
So when I read these kinds of books or see these kinds of movies, I wonder how Humanity could get to that point . . . of despair & doom & death. Of course, Hope Always Springs Eternal.
Two thumbs up for the movie, maybe a reluctant nod to the book, and a prayer that Humanity nevers gets to such a point as either of these.

some of the old movies can never get any better!!! i just watched breakfast at tiffany's again and cried and laughed and loved it!! how could i have left that off my top ten??? it's added now!!
Now I sat and watched Beerfest...HHmmm OK it was what I expected, and it was a bit better than expect4ed. It's nothing to run around telling everyone about, but at the same time it's something I need to get my friends to see. They will all like it, and get a kick out of some of the games they play. It has some raunchy parts that have made me decide that Kala will not see it any time soon. It's going on the same list as my current fav(Clerks 2 sorry WW)
Then I also watched V for Vendetta. I liked it alot more than I thought I would. It's a good story, and it'ws done pretty well. It's a cheesy rip-off of the original comic, and it could have done a better job of running with that, but overall I have to say it was better than th4e reviews said it was.
Hubby and Iwatched a movie called "Three Sisters". It was taken in part from a Chekov story. Ebert describes it best: Shakespeare can be transposed easily into today's setting. Chekov only works in the time period for which it was written. So if you watch this movie, imagine an 18th century upper-class family holed up in a house over winter. Then it plays out somewhat better . . .

i think i lived that in the 20th century... holed up all winter as a young girl with my six sisters...and parents... oh! the memories!!!

Yes, that was a very good movie and very emotional! I had a hard time watching it. I saw it in the theatre and there definitely weren't too many dry eyes by the end. On a side note, it was filmed here in San Diego, so it was cool recognizing some of the places shown in the movie.

Ever finish a movie and feel like you are still in it?
My husband & I watched "The Guardian", starring Kevin Costner and Ashton Kucher as Coast Guard rescue swimmers in the frigid waters off Alaska. Having lived in Alaska for over 7 years, we both remember all the dangers of the wild mountain areas and the sea. This movie also reminds me of a real life story I read in condensed form in a magazine. Very realistic water scenes. This will probably stay with me until bedtime, but I hope not beyond.

OK, so it's been almost a week since I saw it, but it's a must-see. "The Queen" with Helen Mirren. There is a reason she has been winning all the best actress awards and she will be winning the Oscar. Go see it and don't forget your kleenex.

The write-ups describe this Oscar nominee as a gritty international ensemble drama. "Babel," received seven nominations, including best director and two supporting actress nods.
The movie is about 4 different families in four different countries and their connections, told out in a mixed up time order. Telling you this will clear up the first hour of the movie.
The movie is long (almost 2 and a half hours), tragic and the movie "Crash" was similar, IMHO.
Still, I will highly recommend the movie because of the appreciation of the differences in culture, differences in human values, differences in languages (much is sub-titled) and most of all, the differences in how the rich and the poor live and how that really makes us all the same.
Jordan doen't like most movies. Jordan is a snob. The only american movies I ever like are comedies really. I have not been to a movie theater in like five years. Sometimes my friends force me to watch movies I don't like. Sometimes I pee on my friends.
Worthless crap. Adolescent overuse of "naughty" words. Excessive blood.
OK, yes, I'm oversensitive. But I could taste blood, like when you lick a paper cut, after watching this bloodfest. And Jack Nickleson stunk. The Godfather did this movie and I don't buy into the "great betrayal" movie idea.
"Little Miss Sunshine" and "Babel" were much better movies.
I think it's interesting that, before seeing this movie, I expressed during the Oscars that Jack Nickleson & Martin Sorcesse (sp) seemed arrogant and pompous at the awards, while so many others (through Ellen Degeneres' great efforts) all seemed down to earth for a change.

last nite i watched the movie 'bobby' about the assassination of bobby kennedy... interlaced are the storie of the other people who were also shot that nite and other employees of the hotel... it was awesome... but have a box of kleenex nearby.... the ending is so sad.....
Saw Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I liked it and I didn't like it. But that always happens for me with these movies. Also saw Ratatouille (like a week before HP) and I really liked it. For me it was Pixar back to the level of quality I expect from them. My mom and I also saw No Reservations last week and I really liked it as well. Who would have known that a cute movie could come at a PG rating and that two people can fall in love without dropping the f word and without the movie makers feeling that America needs to see them in bed together?
